Fastest way to speed up computer???

Is there a place you can pick and chose the programs that start automatically? If i were to stop them all by doing the said procedure what are some standard things that would be disabled?

click start button
click run
type "msconfig" without ""'s
click startup tab

uncheck items that you do not want to run at start up

some are obvious such as needless programs that always runh when you turn on your com and have an icon in the tray at bottom right of your screen

if you are not sure about a particluar process google it for an explanation of what it does

click apply and then ok
the next time you restart, should be updated

i can't imagine my computer running faster but i'll check it out. and this thing is 4 years old :shrug:

jack, if your cpu is running just fine, don't mess with it. But as a general statement what I posted above occurs quite often. You notice your cpu runs slower or just as fast as 4 yrs ago?

Only problem...lost my internet connection on that computer and can't get it back.

a combo of spybot, adware, cc cleaner, and avg have done me very well so far.
