hope not chest tightness and he thinks it is just gas, most men think that if pain is not real bad say it is more of a pressure and next thing you know 2-3 hours later we have a heart attack that started 2-3 hours before, if is chest pain chew up a 325 mg aspirin don't take it whole with water takes to long to work by chewing it up real well it is absorbed 5 times faster into blood stream and can make a major difference. every one should carry aspirin 325 mg in their car and women in their purse it can save your life some day, and has to be aspirin not motroin or acetaminophen just regular bayer aspirin, and for aspirin take 1 81 mg aspirin everyday when you wake up, and can get them coated if aspirin upset the stomach but 81 mg should not do that, 81 mg is for long term aspirin therapy not a heart attack, if some one has chest pressure for more then 10-15 mins after onset don't take a chance chew up the 325 mg of aspirin and call emt's , much safer then someone driving yourself to hospital for chest tightness or pressure. you don't want someone having a heart attack on way to hospital, hope he is not having that. you don't have to have the sharp stabbing pain or heavy pressure, stiffness in neck cold clammy forehead, tightness in neck between shoulder blades and down biceps, everyone well lot of people think you need all those signs well lot of heart attacks don't have all these symptoms all at once they take time to build up during the onset, only a major attack which is rare will happen all at once, most of the time 75% it starts out with bloating feeling first gas pressure feeling.

ok aspirin therapy and aspirin on onset of sings of chest tightness 81 mg 1 time a day therapy 325 mg chewed up at any of the above signs and call ems. now we covered heart and everyone should take at least a red cross basic rescue /cpr class and even better take a 8 week first responder class. You will all use it sometime in your life.

More health class tonight then handicapping work:D

and annie if something is wrong don't even ask him to go just call ems for anything, that is their job and won't have the fight then.

eric, even if i did call, he'd send them away, and yes, everything is pretty much EXACTLY as you're describing (and he has been passing it off as indigestion all day including while he was at work until 5)

not sure if you read the thread a few weeks ago when he refused to go to the hospital (passed out at wal*mart and his defibulater activated and he still has not seen a DR. about it and all he did was went in and confirmed he had been shocked by his defib.)

not sure if i should know what to do if something else happened or what??? from my understanding, his defib is supposed to do all the work...... is this incorrect??

should also mention that it seems to me that he pops his nitro pills as if they were candy (mentioned tonight that they usually stop the angina, but they didn't seem to be working today)

i have to chime in...you`d better get to the hospital....seriously.....the longer you wait, the more damage that he might be accruing...

my brother had a drug problem...it ruined his heart...he had a pacer/defib....and the defib went off on him.....

and he never touched drugs again...

are you serious that the defib didn`t get his attention?....it knocked my brother on his ass...scared him to death...

lord....put a gun to his head and get him checked out...please...

Garden, he didn't even believe me that his defib had activated (he had been having dizzy spells that day and passed out before it shocked him) he did go into the heart specialists office the next morning but didn't see a doctor.... just the gal that took the reading on the defib and confirmed to him that he had been shocked.... right now he's back at work again after having a TERRIBLE day and night of what he was passing off as indegestion yesterday.

it must be a "father" thing......my old man ...after smoking unfiltered chesterfields for 40 years+,had a pacer put in.....but,he wouldn`t listen to his doctor....made fun of him...

he died with a pack of chesterfields in his pocket...

b.m.....is your mother with you?...hopefully she`s still around.....can`t she coerce him into at least getting checked out?....

a half a day in the emergency room for a whole lot of peace of mind is a small price to pay...

i really hope he comes to his senses....he`s reallly being unfair to you guys....i imagine you are stressed to the max....

i feel for you...

good luck

update...... dad is now in the hospital (but not ICU)

today at work he was suffering severe shortness of breath when doing something as simple as trying to hold his arms up (doesn't work when you're a barber) He called his heart clinic from work to set up an appointment, explaining to them how short of breath he was...and GET THIS .....they schedule him for their first opening on DECEMBER 8th!!!!! (of course they do not mention go to the f'ing HOSPITAL) ... I wouldn't have even known he called for an appointment had they not called back to the house with a cancellation that would allow him in on November 28th ...anyway, i think the whole fight on my part to get him to go anywhere was that he didn't want me to know that he thought it was bad... (he always tried to hide when he was popping nitro pills also) cuz after i knew he had called for an appointment, he gave me ZERO arguement about going to the ER tonight.

we got there NONE too soon (and in hindsight, i probably should have called 911 rather than driven him) ... were there for approximately 3 minutes before they had nurses/aides surrounding him calling for paddles and a Dr. right away (he was able to tell them that he had a defib before they took paddles to him.)

his defib managed to shock him 5 times tonight, and this time he KNEW what hit him, (unlike when he was passed out) I think in the future he will be more willing to get to the hospital earlier rather than wait till things are bad enough that he's taking those MULE KICKS.

still more than confused on why the heart clinic would not tell him to get to the hospital rather than schedule an appointment 2 weeks away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

they didn't call it a heart attack tonight, but they sure as heck weren't cutting him loose like he thought they would.... glad he didn't end up in ICU and is at least somewhere being monitored. maybe i can get a decent nights sleep for a change.

mama-

Sorry for not reading this earlier, but I do hope you father is doing better! As for the Heart Clinic he stillprobably listened to a messaage stating if this is an emergency call 911, and since he didn't the phone person probably just considered it another appt call, (understanding that she/he hears those symptoms all the time, and maybe became complacent).

Your day did not have a heart attack, but did they say what he had? Was it just a bad case of angina? (Not sure why the defib would go off then?) I do not know your father's history, but what ailments is he suffering from.... atherosclorisis? etc.

Rememeber... with father's, don't ask, just DO! They'll thank you later! Cause if you don't DO, they may never get the chance!!
