So much on this game...starts at 11am in Texas..12 noon est
Fau back in Oct beat NT 69-31....blew them right out of Boca...up 24-0 in 1st qrt..up by over 40 at the half...they had over 800 yds total offense..rushed for 357 and passed for 447...Singletary had 3 tds and sat out a lot when the game was out of hand..FAU had 5 other guys rush for over 60 yds...FAU had 37 1st downs and never punted once...It was a brick wall that hit them from the coin flip....Fau cotinued to go undefeated in the CUSA...meanwhile North Texas took this loss and won 5 straight and the west conference crown to play in the championship game today.....talk about rebounding your season....NT defense had really stepped up until they let Army score 49 points last week...but NT did win the game..NT's top rb who is a game breaker is out for the season.. Wilson who had only 49 yds vs FAU is a big time back who cane break one on any play...what will be missed more his his blocking in the backfield...he is an outstanding blocker..Smith his backup is solid and has done a remarkable job rushing but cannot block like Wilson...WR's have been solid but Guyton their top wr is questionable today...he didn't play in the 1st game..Smiley and Bussey are pretty solid and when Bussey catches the ball he can run with it.. Fine the 5'10 qb who many thought couldn't play D-1 has been almost spectacular...he has a great arm ..many schools schools passed over him despite breaking every Oklahoma HS passing record.. NT defense has been solid..other then the FAU game and last weeks Army game they have stepped up.. DL and secondary have been good...the linebackers are average and FAU and Army just dominated them...and that is their Achilles heel today.
FAU offense is outstanding.. Singletary is a top notch rb....over 1,600 yds...think they will run him enough to wear down the NT defense...OL of FAU is really good..both in pass protection and running the ball..they have beaten up many teams besides NT..they have broken every single season record on offense from running,passing,yds gained,etc,etc...FAU defense is good...they get turnovers and are athletic and quick...Fau is undefeated in conf at 8-0.. Kniffin is the coach and you can say what ever you want about him and Saban,him going to frat parties or dancing with 18 yr old co-ed..he has done a great coaching job.. his asst is Briles son from Baylor who coached offense for the Bears...these guys know their offenses...
NT has revenge all over them today...but FAU runs that quick offense which they now call "adjusted Offense" can't believe there is a stat for that..we used to call it "hurry up"...FAU ranks No 1 in the country in that..No huddles...on 12 occasions in their ist game NT wasn't prepared on defense...had payers in wrong positions etc.. I'm sure that will be corrected today...
NT today is playing in conf championship today and is probably going to the New Orleans Bowl regardless of win or lose...they call FAU the " Lane Train "..today think they have to much for NT to handle...esp with Wilson out...FAU offense is to much for the Mean Green defense and think they will just wear them down..don't think it will be a 69-31 score but Owls should win by 2-3 td's...think they will get out in front from the start..like the 1st quarter and half lines too...
Taking my dog this morning for a walk...under an few oak trees here in Austin...got hit by an acorn right in my head..damn...right smack in the middle..looked up and said what are the odds of that..a few years ago got hit by my ist one...didn't know if I won playing that day...not sure if that is a good omen or not...I guess we'll see..
