let me be completely honest and say up front I had a small play on giants to win the series, 2 unit play at -180.

Aside from all the sloppy defensive play, I can't believe the lack of moves made in a elimination game. Santiago is one of the best defensive catchers in the history of the game. With traffic all over the bases and in the 8th inning I can't believe Felipe leaves him on the bench so your inferior catcher can juggle the ball allowing the go ahead run to score, and then incredibly not hustle after the ball while another run scores. :shrug:

Then you get back in the game and somehow you leave Snow (the tying run) in the game to get thrown out at the plate by 5 feet. Has this life long baseball guy ever heard of a pinch runner?? The tying run is a first baseman on second and you don't have anyone faster than that. Maybe he should have pinch run Gallaraga:shrug:

that Jack ass needs to go back to Detroit or Montreal where he can act like a clown and nobody cares.

Congratulations high roller and all fish fans and backers, nice to see Miami fans get a respectable club again after what Mr. Blockbuster pulled in 97. I know there is lots of good baseball people in Miami that deserve this.

He did a poor job overall, but pinch-running Galaragga wouldn't have made any difference...he is just as slow as JT.

LOL..I kinda figure you were, but wasn't sure. But after watching that replay 200 times already, hard for me to think Big Cat couldn't have made it closer, or at least had a better shot at knocking the ball out of Pudge's glove.

Hindsight is 20/20 but after looking over their playoff roster, you would think having Eric Young on the roster would have made more sense than Jason Christiansen. (unless Young somehow was injured and I'm not aware of it). The Marlins have ZERO power from the left-side and San Fran had Eyre as a lefty in the bullpen. Christiansen has been horrible anyway since joining the Giants...hard to believe they would have gone to him in a crucial spot. For pure late game pinch-running purporses Young would have been a logical choice.

cooz, I'm not one to piss and moan either buddy, but physical errors are one thing, strategically errors & lapses by guys getting paid millions to manage drives me insane. Your buddy is correct Snow is a decent athlete with ok speed, FOR A FIRST BASEMAN!!

that is the tying run in a dam elimination game, you can't leave your first baseman out there to run. Jeffrey Hammond did exactly what they needed base to left, not even hit hard, anyone with speed should have scored on that with 2 outs. The fact that he was out and by so much shows he obviously isn't a good base runner.

And not having Santiago in the game in late innings is completely inexcusable, the guy is without argument one of the best defensive catchers ever.

Anyway enough bitching, got to get ready for Grady to drive me insane.

i think it was a POOR move to put in jerome williams instead of Jason "LIGHTS OUT" SCHMIDDY....

here's his reasoning:

hey alou, you have to MAKE it to a game 5 to then worry about your ace pitcher being used and worn out.....
i mean, wtf?? let the guy atleast TRY to pitch the game....poor rookie jerome must have been a deer caught in the headlights when he was told at last minute he was gonna start......

well i'm a giants fan so i'll post a couple of responses.
i've seen nearly every giants game this year.

First of all Santiago is a HORRIBLE defensive player. He was good. In the last month of the regular season, he was letting at least 1 pitch per game get by him. Sometimes, it would be a passed ball and sometimes it would be scored a wild pitch.
His arm is shot. He was horrible at throwing out runners.
Yorvit Torrebella was a much better defensive catcher than Benito was this year.

As for pinchrunning for Snow, I think the only position player left was Galarraga who is not faster than snow.

Also, you don't start pitchers on 3days rest in the playoffs.
Look at the record they have. Something like 6-17 the last few years.

Marlins got a lot of breaks. If Cruz makes that catch in the bottom of the 11th in game 3, ........

Oh well.

The comment about subbing Santiago for Torrealba was real misinformed. Torrealba a very solid (known for his defense) young catcher.

Santiago is a shell of his former self.
