(1) NT has lost 2 coaches for game preparation: RB and OL. The line coach could be major facing Dunn's blitz package:
DENTON, Tex. (12/8/03) ? North Texas assistant football coaches Freddie Kitchens and Eric Wolford have resigned to take similar positions at Mississippi State and Arizona, Mean Green head coach Darrell Dickey announced today.
Kitchens, who coached running backs at North Texas has been hired by new Mississippi State head coach Sylvester Croom. His responsibility on the Bulldogs staff has not yet been determined. Kitchens spent three seasons at North Texas, coaching a 1,000- yard rusher in each season. This year, Patrick Cobbs rushed for a North Texas and Sun Belt Conference record 1,570 yards and leads the nation in rushing with an average of 157.0 yards per game.
Wolford has been hired by new Arizona head coach Mike Stoops who is taking over after resigning as the associate head coach at Oklahoma. Stoops was an assistant at Kansas State when Wolford played for the Wildcats from 1990-93. Wolford will coach the offensive line at Arizona after leading the Mean Green offensive line in its record-setting performance this season.
Kitchens and Wolford have both assumed their new duties and will not be with North Texas when in travels to New Orleans to play in the New Orleans Bowl Tuesday, Dec. 16. Dickey has announced that former Mean Green assistant Bill Michael will join the staff on a temporary basis until the two positions can be filled permanently.
(2) Motivational factors for what it is worth:
Note also that Memphis holds the distinction of having outgained EVERY SINGLE OPPONENT THEY FACED THIS SEASON. Only 1 other school can say that, Miami, Fla. Look for Avery to pick up the slack from DeAngelo's loss, as he will be starting tonight. Note also that the Tigers have dedicated this Bowl Game to "Miss Nancy," a life-time fan dying of cancer and not even expected to be alive for this matchup. Guess What? Not only is she alive, but she will be at the game! There's the Tiger's "Motivational" edge for tonight.
