Well, I have to make my final decision at 8am Monday Morning, Ive got two pending offers on the table, one from Fedex as a Courier, and the other from Sams Club as an entry level manager. Which of these employers would you work for if you had to choose? Which do you think offers the most upward advancement? From what ive seen Sams has the younger management, which appears that they promote quicker, but Ive also heard great things about Fedex as an employer. Please let me know which employer would be the best Career move and company to work for.:)

First off congrats , you are sitting good at either place know people who work for both and the fed ex people are more happy for 1 reason , have 2 friends with sams as managers and they have been moved like 4 times in 7 years the fedex people i know have been in same city for 14 years both of them and have moved up good, starting out was good and benfits are very good from what they said and the guys from sams were not to unhappy with theirs either but they are unhappy with the moving and they did not have a choice move or quit so you will have to think about it but both very good jobs, i if it was me would go with fedex just like being outside and like i said sams can and will move you if they need to and it seems from what i know they only keep managers in one place like 5 years tops. but either way you are in with 2 solid compines and that is good.

good luck

fed ex....as long as you don`t have to load the trucks....as a young guy i worked for a summer loading trucks at u.p.s......

was physically, the hardest thing i`ve ever done....hot as hell....and that f-ckin` conveyor belt never stopped....

if you are just a courier,it sounds like a nice start for a young guy....you`re outside...moving around....a solid company.....probably great benefits....

sounds great....

garden - I worked at UPS for about a month loading trucks. Man your so right....definatly the hardest job I ever had. The freight never stopped...and the Toledo hub is the 2nd heaviest behind Jacksonville's...so we had it really bad. Never in my life did I tell myself "I wanna quit" - but they ended up firing me cuz I threw a package, and apparently I did it in front of the Hub supervisor. Actually, it was one of those red and white bags..that have very high priced items in it...dude got pissed and sent me home and told me Im terminated. I said thank god...no more union fees and no more back breaking bullshit...

Thanks all for the info. One question though, I really like Fedex, but havent been able to talk to any guys that currently work for them. My main concern/question is--will there be the opportunity to work my way up and advance past the courier position? Reason I ask is b/c I am trying to look long term, where i could possibly be in 10 years with the company, and hopefully they give you the oppty to work your way up, in the company, and hopefully it isnt a position that has a "Ceiling" soon after starting the position--as do the UPS driver positions. Anyone know? Can you move up within Fedex if you work hard from the Courier position? Also, anyone know what your earning potential can be at Fedex, I mean, does it take 10 years to make $50k, or could you be making 6 figures in that time frame? Only reason I ask is b/c I know for a fact with hard work, I could be a store manager for Sams withing 4-5 years pulling 6 figures, and though Fedex is my first choice, id hate to pass up quicker, and higher earnings like that if Fedex takes alot longer to work your way up. Any and all info appreciated:)

The stress level at FedEx will be about a billion times less than that as Sams Club. You seem like you are really sincere in working hard so if for some reason one of these jobs does not work out get my e-mail from Jack and I'll get you in contact with the company I work for, we're nationwide so it doesn't really matter what part of the country your in, and the salary requirements are certainly within the what you have mentioned. Good luck with the FedEx job though, very solid company for sure. Also really gald you didn't stay with Wal-Mart.

I think you are 100% correct Penguin, stress would be much lower at Fedex than Sams. Ill go ahead and post my email here, and if you dont mind, shoot me an email so I can have yours on file just in case--thanks again.

lol, I lasted a couple days unloading trucks at UPS, terrible job. We were busting our ass and they had fine assed college girls with a stopwatch clocking how fast we were at the Denver hub.

Someone said hard work never killed anyone..but why test it?? The few days I was there in the back of my head a voice kept saying "youre too smart for this shit"" Glad I walked. Worst job Ive had.

Hands down FedEX. I used to work for them and let me tell you, they REALLY take care of their employees. I also worked for Wal-Mart in my youth. You will work for peanuts the rest of your life at Sams. The possiblities are endless at FedEx. Just my .02
;)

Tons of good benefits too. Too many to list.
