when msu is allowed to do whatever they want on defense, they are hard to beat.

20+ fouls against them and it could have been 30+

bump, push, hack, grab, clutch......they are the 90's knicks/heat of college basketball

at least 3 of their off boards were results of blatant forearms in the back under the basket to grab the ball

that said, uconn played a horrible game.....right into their hands....why uconn was playing slow down grind it out i will never understand......they can score better than msu, so if they wanna run, lets run and see who can keep it up longer and get to 85

Boy, the whiners....

It's nice to see that defense matters in basketball, just like it does it footballl....

Just like in pro football - when you see a 13-3 game due to the winning team having a great defense, well, that is what we saw tonight... great defense....

All the Big 10 bashers can go away - I was so sick of hearing about how great the Big "Least" was... I guess we know now that they aren't as good as the best of the Big 10 has to offer.....

#1 Seed of the tournament - Louisville - blown out by Michigan State...

#1 Seed UConn - another "great" Big East Team - beat rather handily again by Michigan State...

Oh yea, Michigan State also beat the defending Champion, Kansas, in this same tournament....

It's clear that defense (and offensive rebounding of course) still wins basketball games. It is also very clear, with all the ballyhoo about the Big East, that the Big 10's best is much better than the Big East's best....

Which is not surprising to me.. but may be to many of you. For some reason, when Big East teams win 80-77, it is considered "Exciting".. but when Big 10 teams win 58-55, it is considered "boring"...

The Big 10 teams do it with defense, which is there night in and night out. Shooting and scoring comes and goes - it is not there every night....

I'm not a Michigan State fan - but I am a B-10 fan. Congrats Spartans for showing the basketball world (especially the Big East) on how to play a man's game - play physical and play good defense.

Yes, dunks and offense is pretty, but defense wins games.......

Congrats MSU!

like i said, when they're allowed to get away with the clutching grabbing holding etc. they are tough to beat.......personally i've gotten sick of that as its not the way basketball was meant to be played and has turned into mini football and style is dictated by the refs who refuse to call most contact fouls now (but will call every charge for duke when they jump under an offensive player who's already in the air)

imho, the game is cheapened and is going downhill

defense, yeah i love defense.....they way the bulls of the 90's played defense is defense, be long, play the passing lanes, be quick, contest shots, help defense, rebound and go......not bump, clutch, grab, push, grind, etc.....

Just different styles of play, I guess..... living in the Midwest, that is how teams play here (and what we see on TV most of the time), so I guess I think that is how every team plays...

But when we do see the Big East and ACC on TV, it sure is pretty.....the running, the jump shots, the uncontested defense, the lack of rebounding.... I'll admit, I enjoy the 100-90 games once in a while. They are a lot of fun. But I also realize when they play a tough Big 10 type defense, it becomes a different game.....

Now, whether basketball should be a tough, physical game is open to debate... with the atheletes out there, if the refs (who do have a tough job) called every contact that created an advantage (the definition of a foul), well games would be 3.5 hours and each team would shoot 50 free throws each game. The players have gotten so big, so fast and so athletic. A ref could call a foul on every posession, if they went by the book - either on the shot or on jostling inside. It's tough to draw the line and still have a game that is reasonable in terms of physicality and flow.

But I have seen that the Big East is WAY overrated (3 #1 seeds and none of them win the championship, much less even GET to the NC game)????

And the Big 10 was underrated - again. Poor seeds for most teams that gave them much tougher matchups initially than the Big East, even though the Big 10 RPI's were pretty good.

It's nice to see Michigan State stick it to the Big East "powers" and do it rather handilly....

Go Big 10!

i wouldnt say the big-10 was underrated. they were 2 good teams....those 2 teams were the only 2 teams that made the sweet 16

once you get to the elite 8/final 4 and it's all the power teams, they are all pretty similar so conf power is pretty irrelevant.....good teams are good teams

In the game I watched Michigan State out ran Connecticut

They killed em EVERY WAY POSSIBLE EXCEPT for GETTING 2 to 1 on CALLS to go their way.... REFS did EVERYTHING THEY COULD HAVE TO HELP UCONN... THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN A 20 PT WIN easy for MICH ST... NO CAR and MICH ST over.... 165? 170? Wonder what it will be....

In some ways, I'd agree - in some ways I wouldn't.....

I don't think the Big East #1's are in the same class as Michigan State (obviously, as Michigan State handled them pretty easily).... Michigan State was easily the best in the B-10 this year - so I guess I'd put the big 3 in the Big East more on the Purdue level...

Which means Purdue and Mich State should have been #1 seeds too :00hour

I guess I'm just bitter - I'm a big Wisky fan - they finished #4 in the Big 10, had a RPI around 40 (they had a really tough schedule - both in and out of conference) - and got a 12 seed - because of the Big 10 reputation.....If they were a Big East team, with the same resume, they probably would have been a #3 seed.....

The Big East was soooo overrated......it's an advantage being in a 16 team conference, with an unbalanced schedule - and having so many bad teams to beat up on ..... after the first 5 teams in the Big East, the conference just wasn't that good - but it was easy to put up huge win totals playing South Florida, Rutgers, et all......

It'll be interesting to see what Michigan State can do against NC - it's nice to see that we got the 2 best teams in the NC game this year - we don't see that every year, due to upsets....

Kudo's to NC and MSU!

well the way i look at it

the big east had 4 legit final 4 teams
the big 10 had 2
the acc had 2
the big 12 had 1
the sec had 0
the pac-10 had 0

the big east had 2 more legit sweet 16 teams
the big 10 had 1

michigan state can win it all, but the big east was clearly a better conf this season.

due to upsets? You mean like the one Michigan St. had against Louisville and the one Michigan St. had against UConn.
