Between Green Bay and Iowa City
"The urge to gamble is so universal and its practice is so pleasurable, that I assume it must be evil." ~ Heywood Broun

"The house doesn't beat the player. It just gives him the opportunity to beat himself." ~ Nick Dandalos

Pittsburgh(-13) over Bowling Green (1*)
- - BGs depleted OL and run porous DL provides far from ideal matchups on both sides of the ball. From AR182, I believe Pitt is 3-0 ATS in home openers against MAC opponents, while teams opening on road or as dogs after losing Bowl game by 14+ points are 9-20. With QB Stull back to start a crucial Pitt season on the heels of last year?s season ending shocker in Morgantown, I really expect Wannstedt is able to deliver a proper start in the televised opener.

East Carolina(+9) over Virginia Tech (1*)
- - ECU was brilliant last year in just about the toughest spot imaginable. I don?t see the reason to expect VT to return the favor with a brilliant performance this season in a spot that favors the rising fortunes of the home dog. ECU would look to have some favorable matchups given their quick-strike abilities on offense and by having their greatest defensive vulnerability being against aeriel assaults. . . . ?The Hokies will be on upset alert at Charlotte's Bank of America Stadium. With seven new starters on defense, a new set of receivers and a new rotation of running backs, they aren't exactly heading into this game swelling with confidence. ECU is trying to break into the national football picture, and it catches Virginia Tech at a good time.?

Western Michigan(+14) over Nebraska (1*)
- - A leap of faith that WMU has addressed last year's slow start and will have the fortitude to not be bulldozed under by any flash of early emotion in Lincoln.

Missouri(-8') over Illinois (1*)
- - Last year I got the first call right in expecting HC Zook to surprise with a hungry and fairly loaded Illini team. The second call is for Zook?s squad to disappoint with expectations duly raised, and taking the better team in a rivalry game topped with payback over landing the Rose Bowl birth is certainly the right spot for putting the premise right to the test.
