OAK 1st 5 -130/-125 x1.8
S. Gray (OAK) innings pitched PK (-200) over T. Walker (SEA) x2

Just a note that I bumped up the unit sizes slightly on these plays.
Got a slightly better line on the 1st 5 @ -125 so added another x1 to win x0.8 there.

Hopefully, Gray can come out and pitch well like he has all season.
Walker very inconsistent and doesn't last long into games typically.

Seattle pregame

As expected, traffic is already beyond awful for a Friday with nice weekend weather predicted. So prepare yourselves and drive safe.

Roster moves

The Mariners made a roster move this afternoon, activating right-handed reliever Tom Wilhelmsen from the 15-day disabled list. To make room for Wilhelmsen, Dominic Leone was optioned to Class AAA Tacoma.

?Everything has been feeling good for quite a while,? Wilhelmsen said.

There was some thought that Wilhelmsen might go out on a one-appearance rehab assignment, but the Mariners changed their mind after watching how well he threw in the simulated game on Wednesday.

?He had three wonderful sessions and we really worked him out hard,? manager Lloyd McClendon said.

In that sim game, they had Wilhelmsen covering first base, making pick-off throws while also facing live hitters.

?It looked like he?s in pretty good shape and the ball was coming out really good,? McClendon said. ?I don?t think that an inning in Tacoma is going to do any better than what he?s done. I just felt he should be activated.?

After missing almost a month, Wilhelmsen probably won?t be going multiple innings right away.

?I don?t think he?ll go out and go two right away,? McClendon said.

But Wilhelmsen isn?t opposed to doing so if needed.

?If they ask me to go two-plus innings then I will be ready to go two-plus innings, I wouldn?t be here otherwise,? he said. ?I?ve been feeling good. Everything has been feeling good out of my hand. I was happy with the bullpens and how the sim game went.?

Wilhelmsen said the pain in his elbow hasn?t been an issue for ?quite some time.? The biggest issue was finding the rhythm and feel with his offspeed pitches.

?It came back really quick,? he said. ?That was my biggest concern. I eliminated the elbow issue quite a bit ago. So the No. 1 concern was how those two we?re going to feel ? the changeup and the curveball and they came back right away. It wasn?t like there were six months off. It was two weeks.?

Leone had struggled in his last few outings with command. He had given up two walk-off hits on the road trip.

?He?s just got to pitch better,? McClendon said. ?Work on his mechanics and get the ball down where it needs to be. You can?t live up in the zone at this level.?

Brad Miller in the outfield

Obviously, the outfield has a different look with Dustin Ackley in center field. McClendon loaded up on lefties to face Oakland ace Sonny Gray. Brad Miller gets the start at designated hitter and that?s a place we may see him in the next few games.

Miller took reps in center field and at shortstop during the Mariners? pre-batting practice infield/outfield session. But when might we see Miller in a game in the outfield?

?I think he?s to a point now where if we had an emergency, he could certainly go in the outfield,? McClendon said. ?Look, he plays short, so he?s a good athlete. The game slows down in the outfield. This is not a major, major transition for this guy. We have the luxury right now with Jackson being hurt to DH him and it just makes sense to put the guy that have been in the outfield in the outfield for right now. But at some point, we won?t have that luxury and he?ll be out there. I don?t know when that?s going to be. It could be after the off day. I don?t know.?

Jackson is progressing quicker than expected.

?He?s gotten remarkably better,? McClendon said. ?The swelling went down quite a bit, and there is some stiffness and soreness, but it was the right thing to do to DL him. We don?t want this to linger. He?s coming along just fine.?

McClendon expects Jackson will be ready to go when he?s eligible to come off the DL. He will likely need to go out on a rehab assignment for a handful of games.
