One of my favorite ways to bet is playing against off-season projections in the first couple of weeks. So far, two schools have received a ton of press. One good (Auburn) and one bad (Georgia).

Auburn is everyone's pre-season darling. I thin there are some writers out there that are ready to forego the season and hand them the national championship. What does that mean for me? It most certainly will mean playing the other side on August 30. USC is expected to roll over, play dead, and hoist Auburn to greatness on their run to the title. In the words of the ever-annoying Lee Corso, "Not so fast, my friend!" USC has an inexperience problem at QB, but that is what the boys in the trenches are playing for. Protection will be key to USC's entire season and especially this first game. If Booty can settle in he has weapons to help him in this battle. This game is obviously not going to be won on the offensive side of the ball for USC, but Booty needs to make sure he just doesn't lose it for them. USC's defense is out to prove their prowess against the the running game who anyone with a pulse has heard about.

Getting back to my point, my money will not necessarily be on USC or against Auburn, though. It will simply be against the hype that Auburn has received. There can simply be no value in playing Auburn.

Now the bad. Georgia is coming off of a miracle season. A lucky turnover in the South Carolina game, a last second TD against Auburn, two blocked field goals against a Clausen-less Tennessee, and a outright battle against Alabama. Put this with losing 7 players to the draft (8 counting Terrence Edwards who was picked up by the Falcons), the entire starting offensive line, and the consistent play from TE Watson--what do you get? Basically, a bunch of bad press. Most polls still have Gerogia in the Top 10, but how many times do you see the reigning SEC champ drop to the bottom half of the pre-season top 10?

Georgia's offensive line is not in as bad of shape as it sounds. Most everyone that will be starting this year comes in with experience. No starters but there are bodies with playing experience. Will the offensive line be as good? Without out a doubt not. Where Georgia is going to win ballgames is with returning QB David Greene making good decision (which is his strength) and on the defensive side putting pressure on opposing QBs.

Once again on August 30, my money will not be necessarily on Georgia or against Clemson but against the bad press that the Bulldogs have received.

Disclaimer: Georgia is my alma-mater, but I do my best to ignore that when making my decisions.

I am huge USC fan and I know the program pretty well. Booty most likely will not start or play against Auburn. Lienhart (RS SOPH) or Hance (RS JUNIOR) most likely will play. I prefer Hance to start because he is the only QB with experience (he started at PURDUE and played at Michigan, at Penn st. and other big games before transfering). Hance has been bothered by injuries so he is questionable and has not practiced much this summer with the team at voluntary practices. As of right now there is no real starting QB for Auburn. Coaches still deciding and i can let you know how the QB has performed in practice and if he looks good.

Remember, if USC QB is effective, USC will win in double digits. USC has more talent than AUburn and only question mark is starting QB and depth at tight end.

I would almost rather the QB problems to exist right up until kickoff. This will only inflate the line even more. As mentioned, I don't think USC wins this game because of their QB play, but they could certainly lose it because of it.

I know you are a fan of USC but to say that they are more talented than Auburn might be stretching it. Both are very talented, and that is why I like USC in this game to cover. Auburn is getting all of the hype.

Thanks for the responses.

Among Libtards!!
always a good strategy to look to go against the hype....that is always the first place I look when examining a game and looking to make a play....sometimes a very good place to find some value due to the shaded line. Interested to see what the lines for these two games do in the next couple of weeks. Good luck this season to all!!!

OL--I give USC the edge, 3 seniors and only lost one starting lineman from last year and we have the phenom WINSTON JUSTICE who started as a frosh.

DL- Def. give USC the edge but AU does have good DL.

LB- AU HANDS DOWN, i love your LB crew, very good, BUT USC has good LB group too but AU is better.

DB- USC def. has better DB's talent wise and experience wise. 3 senior DB competing with time too.

Safety and SS USC i would say is better despite starting a frosh at SS but he is a PHENOM, 6.2, 220, 4.3, built like a rock, DARNELL BING, he will be a RONNIE LOT and he won the starting job from day 1.

WR-- USC hands down.

QB- AU the edge mostly based on experience, USC does not really have an experienced QB. Campbell does not scare me at all with his arm.

RB- AU the edge but USC has very talented RB but they are just inexperienced. USC has 1 soph and 3 frosh, all were ranked top 10 in the nation out of high school. So we got serious talent at RB.

FB- I give AU the edge here but USC has good FB but not really experienced.

Special Teams- USC has great punter, average/good place kicker, AU starting new players here i believe.

So I basically gave USC advantage of 6-4, but I think USC is more talented at the most important positions. Games are won in the trenches, and USC has major mismatch in their favor with our recievers and your DB's. USC is more talented, but that does not mean AU is not. AU is very talented and are deserving of pre-season rank of top 10.
