I keep seeing all these posts where folks are claiming the games are fixed. This is impossible!!! Add up the salaries from both of these teams on the court and tell me where you can pay anyone enough to make a bet somewhere to cover it. There are over $20-30 million a year on the court. Who would jeopardize a career for a payoff? Where could you make a bet for an amount that high? Any large bet is going to raise a flag immediately that somethi ng is up. No way you can pay the PLAYERS to fix games.

The only place that you can question anything is the referees. They are the the ONLY ones that can control an outcome. And I am not going to argue that the calls in every game are questionable. Every time Shaq touches the ball, a foul can be called, whether it be offensive or defensive.

In football, the kicking game is the biggest question. But again, the referees can call/no call on every play. Look at the play last year when the Raves STOLE the game with the Titans when one of there fat a$$ linemen were in our backfield when we scored on the last play of the game and the refs called it a dead ball instead of offsides that we could decline and win the game

Off on a tangent, but my point is, PLAYERS do not fix games.

Uh, re-read the posts, especially mine.

The refs are controlling the way games are desided and having a helping hand in deciding the outcome of games. I don't think anybody has accused any player of throwing or fixing a game, excpt for Hedace Smith of ASU.

As for your Titans, sorry to burst your bubble but the correct call was made on that play. Yes, Balt was offsides, but your o-lineman wasn't set and moving: "offsetting penalties, replay the down". Just be glad their pig was offsides or the penalty on you alone would have been 5 yards and 10 seconds off the clock, game over.

Although I don't think itis as blatant as someone getting handed $50,000 for missing a pair of free throws down the stretch in a 1 point game, i do tend to think that the NBA office has pressure applied to them by NBC because of the television contract. I can't remember the last time NBC went a Sunday without a NBA playoff game because the series were finished early. Is it just coincidence that for at least the last 2 years the team trailing in the series won game six to force a game 7 on NBC on Sunday?? And what is with the start times?? Why do the games start at 6PM (I am talking before the Finals)? What happened to the Sunday afternoon basketball when a 3PM start was considered late?? Do you think it has to do with ratings?? Of course! NBC has to make back the money it paid to the NBA and David Stern will allow them to play the games at midnight if that's what NBC wants.

These are just my Mel Gibson Conspiracy Theory opinions so please feel free to correct me wherever you feel I may be misinformed.

gjn,

The call was not our lineman not set, it was contact by their defense trying to get back onside. Our line was set and he tried to get thru after laying his fat a$$ in our backfield trying to let the clock run out. It caused a debate in the rules committe to be discussed in the offseason that I have not heard if it was changed to give the offense an option when this happens with less than two minutes left in a game. Bottom line it is a bad rule and even our coach Jeff Fisher said was correct at the time but will be working to change in the future.

The call was 100% correct as stated by the rule book at the time. It may or may not be a bad rule but the correct call was made.

Basically, it's the same call as if a d-lineman shoved his way into the line from the defenseive side. Encroachment. He's "unabated to the quarterback" and the play is dead. Correct call. End of story.

And believe me, the offense WANTS this rule dearly. If the offense had the option to accept the play or not, the defense would have to play it out when they encroached. What's this mean? Basically, a player charging offsides would be able to HAMMER the quarterback. Sure, the offense would have the option of taking the play or not, but the quarterback wouldn't have a head.

Besides, most of these threads were about the refs, not the players.

you look to be correct; however the right call was made, a fix was not in order by the refs in that game as you suggest.

Plus you still only needed 18 inches to win the game on the next play?

Shrimp, like I stated that Iwas getting off on a tangent about the football game. My original point was the refs are the only ones that control an outcome that is not decided during the game.

And gjn, your right we really fooled them with that second quarteback sneak call, huh? :moon:

OK! Now I understand..........But why, when I have an over for the first half needing 3 points to cover players that have been shooting lights out can't hit the rim or back board? Also during this time there are 2 blown lay ups? All this with over 2 1/2 minutes left. You can add missed foul shots to the mix.....

Yea I am talking about mostly in the playoffs and have won in the same situation.

BTW how much do you think is bet on every game.?

WOULD LIKE TO HEAR MORE ON THIS TOPIC !!! BOTH SIDES!!

why?

Why, I understand your grief, especially as a long time fristrated gambler who usually ends up on the wrong side of the freaky stuff.

My point is, as having family and a couple of friends that have been professional athletes, these guys are multi-millionaires already and why would they chance to give that up for one game. The only person that can change the game is the person that blows the whistle or doesn't.

I hear what you are saying how much money is bet on a game but no one person or small group can pay enough to guarantee victory and be able to bet enough indiscriminatly to recoup.
