Our tv has developed issues again, and we've decided to make the plunge. We want a flat screen, able to mount on the wall or stand on a shelf, probably between 40 and 50 inches, hi-def, etc. Just starting the shopping experience. Anyone looked for one lately, or aware of any good deals out there? We have a Wal-Mart here, live close to many big-box stores. Would like to keep it at $1K or so, but might consider more for a fantastic tv. We don't go out much, and consider tv, sports, movies one of our biggest forms of entertainment (sadly...). So, we want something nice.

Thoughts? Thanks a lot.

On the course!
Japan will probably have a ton of scratch&dent deals coming out of there over the next few months.

New models are coming out this week Chad, there should be plenty of sales on last years models.

I picked up a 40" for my office/war room last week at Best Buy.

If you live near a costco, they have a 55" vizio LCD 1080p 120 hz HDTV for 1,080.00 and the pic is incredible.

Thanks guys. We did some research, my wife called her brother who had just gone through this and has his Consumer Reports issue on the flat screens. We looked around online and found both the best buy models there, and actually my son found a really good one, too. Wife got busy on this and went with one from Amazon for less than $800 w/free shipping that has everything we could want at 47 inches. She doesn't mess around with her tv... and I'm hoping it gets here and we can hook it up for the games next weekend.

Thanks again for your links and thoughts. I didn't expect that to go so quickly, but we're done...

I remember when I was looking for a new t.v. a couple of years ago I found I could buy the exact same t.v. off of an online dealer for $100-$150 less than what Best Buy was selling it for. The difference was that the online dealer did not offer a guarantee on the t.v. You would have to open the box and make sure the screen wasn't cracked while the delivery guy was standing there. If you hooked it up and something wasn't working, then shipping it back was on you. Lot's of fine print with some of the online dealers. Needless to say I paid the extra money for the piece of mind of the money back guarantee and that I could talk to someone face to face if there was a problem. Point is, watch who you are buying from.

You will love watching the tourney in HD... I'm guessing I won't see you much in the policital forum next weekend with you watching all the games!

Dont get a Vizio. Heres a great deal right now if you wanna drop a dime. Might be too much TV for you though.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Samsung...&skuId=9784144&st=Samsung LN55C630 &cp=1&lp=2

that's a sweet deal Bender...That Sammy picture is real nice..

don't be fooled by the mass distribution of Vizio though..that 55'' they sell now for 900.00 everyday price is one hell of a nice TV..

if ya love TV and ya sit at least 9 feet away from the tube you will love a 55''...1080P.....sound-around and let it rip..

anything smaller just isn't the same..IMHO

ENJOY..WHATEVER YA CHOOSE..

stick with a name brand chad...don`t take a chance on purchasing a big ticket item and buying something less than top of the line to save a few bucks...

i go with sony/panasonic and mitsubishi....never had a problem with any of them...i`ve had my mitsubishi 36" tube for almost 20 years..

don`t take a chance...you can get great deals on lastt year`s models of the high end brands...

I think our purchase was similar to this - Samsung with all of that in a smaller size (46 or 47) for a couple hundred less. It seems to be a great deal.

super picture and clarity with the Sammy's

I don't suggest wall mounting..but to each his own..
