I am not videophile, so if you are my comment will not likely be of much help. I recently purchased a panasonic vieza (i think)plasma television in the 50-55" range. I think the picture is just fine, and I know that I spent less than $1000, in fact I think it was closer to $700. My other TVs are LCD, which seem a tad more expensive, but to me the picture is just as good on the plasma.

Anyway, glad to read that your recovery is going so well. Best of luck moving forward.

What specifically don't you like about wall mounting? The danger of it falling off? Something else?

have mounted 2 over the fireplaces and one on just a den wall...I didn't care for the depth perception .Plus the two mounted above the fireplaces created a situation where you are constantly in a lookin' up position..
and that sucked big time..
screw that...when I want to crash the couch or the big lazyboy chair I hated the angle of view..

Chad are tv room has a 55'' that sits[measured today for ya] 9 feet[from eyeballs in a direct line to the screen] away from our duel lazy recliner/couch...like being at the theatre for every program we watch..either disc or Directv..

LCD/widescreen were created to take advantage of the natural response of the human eye to light refraction and stimuli..left to right ...

I can imagine a better setting for that media-room/theatre effect..

plus our tv stand allowed the wife to have all the componnets neatly arranged with no wires showing anywhere...

which was a must ..:scared

she doesn't ask for much and very seldom complains about any decision I make concerning the home..inside or out..

but no wired mess ..:nono: :nono: :nono:

must be for that clean and tidy look on both the occassions we entertain each year..:)

I have 2 Vizios, my X has 2 and so does my son.......they are all between 2 and 6 years old and all were bought at Costco. They work perfect, never had a problem with them......:0074

I have no idea about the longterm maintenance of Vizios since I do not own one, nor do I know anyone that does. I meant that the contrast, quality of picture, and especially sound quality does not come close to being in the top 3 tv's made.

Old School - based on the "experts", you are sitting too far away from a TV of that size.

Maximum SMPTE recommended viewing distance: SMPTE standard EG-18-1994 recommends a minimum viewing angle of 30 degrees for movie theaters. This seems to be becoming a de facto standard for front projection home theaters also. Viewing from this distance or closer will result in a more immersive experience, and also lessen eye strain caused by watching a smaller image in a dark room

Using their calculator, it says the maximum distance away you should be is 7.5 feet.

Again, it is the "experts", and people should sit wherever they feel comfortable, but thought you'd be interested in this.

Chad, I thought you may be interested also. I've always found folks bought a "big screen" TV, but usually end up getting one too small for their room, just because it "seems pretty big" compared to what they had previously. More info is at their website:

i kind of agree with the t.v. size comment.....i bought a 52" sony about 3 years ago and was very unhappy because i thought it seemed big for the room....

after having several friends tell me i was crazy..and ater getting all the settings just the way i wanted them,i knew i was wrong.........

if you watch a good deal of t.v(sports/movies/blue ray/dvds) get a nice big t.v....

i`m really happy i got a big one...

btw...my t.v. is on a stand at eye level....i took some heavy black fiberboard and cut some pieces out to fill in the dead spots between components(being careful to leave enough for ventilation).....

you really can`t tell it`s fiberboard there...just looks dark...

btw...be careful hanging anything on the wall in your living room.....the wall in our second bathroom downstairs was bowed when we moved in because of an old medicine cabinet the previous owner had hanging there...it was a pain in the ass to fix......

couldn't disagree w/you more..but that is why we all have a chance to form an opinion based on what each individual sees

what TV/TV'S do you watch at home.

look forward to your response..

There you go - easy fix!

actually ran the numbers for our 55'' thru that cool site you passed along..

then we pulled the measuring tape again to get the :0corn and..:toast: ......view:0002

you are absolutely correct about folks wishing they had bought a larger screen...

stands to reason though when the primo distance from the screen for a 55'' is less than 9 feet.

would not be a happy camper with a smaller TV SCREEN...after enjoying the panoscope of the 55''..

hell ...would love a 65'' 3D/ LED...ANYBODY GOTS SOME EXTRA CHANGE..

I want what you're smoking

I quit smoking cigs over two years ago, and I have not smoked weed in over 30 years............with that said. If they ever legalize the stuff........houston, I may have a problem:mj07:
Tv ratings change as often as we change underwear and I do read consumer reports which over the past 5 years have consistently rated Vizio within the top three. I also think that it is up to the consumer to decide what features they desire and do not like people making blanket statements, IE ......do not buy Vizio. I do not tell people to not buy a BMW when I prefer Audi........FWIW

Thanks for all the input fellas - I suppose we should have gone bigger, but this is bigger than the one we have and we're going to play around with some options before we decide to mount it on the wall. We have pretty set places we watch from, I measured and I sit on the right side about 12 feet from where the screen would be on the wall. Where it would be mounted is directly eye level to where I would sit reclining with my head on my recliner - that would be perfect, I sometimes have to tilt my head down a little currently. Sounds like I might be too far away from perfection, but I doubt it will matter much for me, but I will move the chair up/around and see how that works.

I'll check the level of the wall, Wease, good point. I think our house is pretty well put together and not very old, so it's in good shape.

I'm sure when we slap that thing up we'll be happy - but definitely have some things to think about.
