I know I don't have the background or insight that you guys do, but I wanted to see if either of you two agreed with what I am seeing. I am watching the Atlanta game tonite and looking closely at Russ Ortiz. He just seems to look like he is laboring and that he is "off" in his delivery. His arm action looks really bad and he has that "stiff" and mechanical look. He has not really been himself all year, and I don't know if he is hurt, or if it is something in his delivery. Looks like he is aiming the ball as well. If what I am seeing is totally off, forgive me and I will take 4 laps!

What's up Wondo???:drinky:

I see you fletcher!!! :bigear:

Hey Ray-

Sorry I missed the game... just got back to the hotel now. Actually , I doubt Ortiz is still in but let me see when the bravos come up. I wish I was having as much fan as my smiley face counterpart!

Turns out he is still in (7th) right now & Ortiz is still in.

I haven't seen him enough to know how he usually works, but his arm action is very short and 'dirty' and typically a guy like that would profile to be a short reliever. Starters typically (or hopefully) have more smooth arc and a full cirlce on the 'backside' or when they separate their throwing hand and glove.... for more durability. But here Ortiz is throwing 100+ pitches and he does well as a starter, so it's one of those exceptions. But if you're just playing the percentages, maybe it is that the funky arm action is catching up with him. Many guys whose arms don't work well will at some point struggle with command or more likely some sort of injury.

So basically, I couldn't guess how he get's away with it but just one of those things.
