I like the Vols here. I think Lane Kiffin is an idiot and I was thrilled when the Raiders took him off USC's hands - I had the feeling Carroll kept him around because of his old man. BUT...Giving the Vols 30 points is pretty crazy.
Waaaaay too much is being made of Kiffin's remarks. I think the thing to ask is: If Kiffin had not made those remarks, what would the spread be? I would guess maybe 21? I fail to see any scenerio where UF would not come out fired up playing the SEC opener at home in the swamp. I also cant see a scenerio where Meyer would not run up the score on any and all oposition. So, UT will get a fired up, fully committed Gator team looking to kill. I dont see how those comments would have changed anything that UT will see one iota. No good coach is going to alter their game plan just because their feelings were hurt.
The line's also inflated by the UT loss to UCLA. UCLA is really underrated in my opinion. They will be in the mix with Cal and USC IMO this year - assuming they get decent QB play.
We all know Cropton is maybe one of the worst senior, returning QBs we've ever seen at a major program in many years. But, they have some good RB's, serious talent on D and Monte will have his D ready for UF. And, I might add, they wlill be pretty jacked up as well to play the #1 team in the country with very little pressure given what is expected of them and all the talk of how UF is going to embarass them.
