ahhh mis-c

yes i should probably keep my kids out of camp and school for the foreseeable future then - it?s not like they need to socialize or learn anything

I think the ask was always limited to the near term, so taking one summer off. However, I think it's worth looking at the local case count, what precautions are being taken and basing a decision from there.

With all due respect, when are you going to post something in a positive light??? Everything lately from your keyboard is negative news/controversial trying to egg guys on here.....Houston precipice of disaster.......Florida 1698 highest day.....Torri Hunter racism threats real......Nascar and the flag....and now Florida over 2000 cases.....along with all political jabs at POTUS....

Please go back to being the positive guy here and maybe bring back your lawnmower across the bottom of signature. Seemed to make you happier old school. Bring in some happy news if you will please....thank you

You know you can't be fixed.

it is rare for kids to contract covid

if they get it there is a 90% chance no one will ever know

can?t even begin to try to estimate the chances they acquire the extremely rare mis-c from there

in the age group 0-20, a total of 2 people in the state of Louisiana have died from cv complications - but according to some i should keep my kids inside the house and isolated from friends and social infrastructure for an additional 3 months, on top of the 3 months where this has already occurred? do you know how unhealthy that is for kids my children?s age?

the difference i have seen in them in the last 2 days since they started is nothing short of remarkable, think we?ll soldier on, even in light of the extremely minimal risk that something may happen.....

i should add that the camp is at a well respected local establishment, and they of course have cv rules in place - smaller enrollment, less interaction outside of specified group, altered offerings re activities, etc - we go there to swim and exercise outside of camp and all precautions are in place - limited space in pools, time needs to be reserved to workout/swim, and all of the mask and social distancing stuff - personally i think it?s all a little much, but i can live with it for now for the return

at the end of the day everyone has their opinions on what?s best for them and their families, and everyone has a different q factor when it comes to risk aversion in general - but i feel pretty certain i?m not stupid and my common sense index is telling me that my kids will be perfectly fine at camp

btw, my 6 y/o has a 2 week summer bridge program starting 7/13 at his school to brush up on 1st grade skills and to reengage back to school life in general - this is not within prescribed 3 month window of time either so is it dangerous that i have registered him for that too? at what point will it be considered safe? school starts like 8/12 or something and i am sure that many plan on sending their kids back to school

16 friends test positive for coronavirus after an outing at a Florida bar
Madeline Holcombe

Updated 6:13 AM ET, Wed June 17, 2020

https://www.cnn.com/2020/06/17/us/group-tests-positive-florida-bar/index.html

(CNN)A group of 16 friends all tested positive for coronavirus after a night out at a recently reopened Florida bar.

Three members of the group, who spoke to CNN's Chris Cuomo Tuesday, said they want to remind the public that the pandemic is not over yet.

"We want to raise awareness and get ahead of it," Kat Layton told Cuomo. "We want to tell people it's really not ready for what we thought it was ready for, it's too soon."

The group had gathered for a friend's birthday, they said. The bar was crowded, and no one was wearing masks.

"Standing there in front of those people, we knew we were pushing it," Layton said.

At the time, the virus was "out of sight, out of mind" since they didn't know anyone who had contracted it and they heard from their mayor and governor that everything was fine, Erika Crisp said. But within days, they started getting sick.

"Receiving the text messages that my friends were just boom, positive, boom, positive, boom, positive, back to back to back, it was overwhelming," Dara Sweat told Cuomo.

Everyone in the group tested positive; and though some had flu like symptoms, none got seriously ill.

The women said they are confident they contracted the virus on that outing. Since then, they said, they have been messaged by strangers who also got sick after visiting the same bar that weekend.

They want others to be more cautious about taking advantage of looser restrictions.
"I feel foolish, it's too soon," Crisp said.

Though Florida is continuing to reopen from coronavirus restrictions, the state recorded a record number of new cases on Monday, according to the Florida Department of Health.

"No, we're not shutting down, you know, we're going to go forward. We're going to continue to protect the most vulnerable. You know, we're going to urge, continue to advise, particularly our elderly population to maintain social distancing, avoid crowds," Gov. Ron DeSantis said.
CNN's Keith Allen contributed to this report.

ICU beds in short supply across Florida as state struggles with coronavirus spike

Less than 25 percent of hospital spots that are set side for the most ill are now available, according to data provided by the state.

By David K. Li
Less than a quarter of hospital beds for intensive care patients are now available in Florida as the state grapples with a spike in coronavirus cases, data provided by the state revealed on Thursday.

There were 1,371 adult ICU spots available out of 6,064 statewide, which is about 22.6 percent, the Agency for Health Care Administration showed in an update posted at 3:32 p.m. ET.

That troublingly low figure includes data from Broward County, Florida's second largest, which had just 20.9 percent of ICU beds ready at that time.

Hillsborough County, the state's fourth most populous county, had only 19.0 percent available.

According to the same data, 26 hospitals throughout Florida had no available ICU capacity. Miami-Dade, the state's most populous county, had three hospitals with no ICU beds available.

But Patrick Manderfield, a spokesman for the state's health agency, said the ICU percentages are skewing deceptively low because new beds are being added, but not reflected in the data.

"Hospitals plan and prepare for surge, although that additional capacity is not reflected on the dashboard," Manderfield said in a statement.

"Hospitals have the ability to convert beds and bring additional ICU beds online in a surge situation when necessary. Within 48 hours, hospitals have the capability to dramatically increase statewide staffed capacity in the event of a surge situation."

Also on Thursday, the state had an increase of more than 3,200 cases in the biggest single-day spike of this pandemic.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said he?ll be conferring with his public health experts and consider calls for a two-week quarantine against Floridians coming into his state.

Back at the start of pandemic in March, when New York City and the state were fully in the grips of the pandemic, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis ordered that visitors from those hard hit regions had to quarantine in the Sunshine State.

"They were afraid that New Yorkers would being the virus to their state," Cuomo told reporters on Thursday. "Fast forward 100 days, now we're afraid they're bringing the virus to our state."

Cuomo appeared to fight a grin as he mulled the possible Florida quarantine.

"Who would believe this 180 turnaround?" he said

Florida sets new coronavirus daily record with more than 3,000 cases

Health officials in Florida reported another 3,207 coronavirus cases on Thursday, marking a new daily record as the state continues to see its numbers rise in the ongoing pandemic.

The cases reported Thursday surpassed the 2,783 cases reported two days earlier by health officials in the state, marking a new record for the state, according to USA Today.

Florida has reported a total of 85,926 coronavirus cases since the beginning of the outbreak and 3,061 fatalities.

There were 43 reported deaths related to coronavirus reported on Thursday.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) has said that the increase in cases is due to expanded testing across the state, as well as spikes among groups of farmworkers and residents and employees of nursing homes, Fox 13 reported.

?You have to have society function, you have to be able to have a cohesive society, that?s the best way to be able to deal with the impacts of the virus,? DeSantis said Tuesday. ?But particularly when you have a virus that disproportionately impacts one segment of society, to suppress a lot of working-age people at this point I don?t think would likely be very effective.?

Despite the increase in confirmed reports, DeSantis has continually said that the state is ?not shutting down, we are going to go forward." He vowed that the state would ?continue to protect the most vulnerable,? according to the outlet.

Florida Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried, a Democrat, blasted DeSantis?s handling of the pandemic after the reported high on Tuesday, saying that the official has ?lost control of Florida?s COVID-19 response.?

?His policies are simply not working, and he?s recklessly reopening Florida despite the data screaming for caution,? Fried said at the time in a statement.

Masks + Distance + Brief interactions = No Corona

We know the formula at this point. Don't have to be extremely cautious or idiotically defiant (this isn't a hoax and the earth is round). Most of our life can be normal with just a little caution included.

If we are stupid and political then this will never go away.
