It was considered a great privilege to be taken out to dinner
at a real restaurant with your parents? and God forbid if you acted up. Back then you would be sent out to the car to sit there while everyone else ate dinner.
and playing baseball with no adults to help kids with the rules of the game?
On of the worse things that has happened since I was a kid. We learned how to handle a disagreement, sure sometimes someone ended up with a fat lip but once it was over, we picked up the game right where it left off.
When being sent to the principal's office was nothing
compared to the fate that awaited the student at home?
My old man is 84 years old and I am still in fear of him in some ways, disappointing him mostly but I remember a few sessions with him in the basement in my youth that left a lasting impression about right and wrong, respect for other people property, respect for authority, and talking back to my mother.
