that's what i want old school. the wife wants a rescue dog...

I bought my 1st dog from a breeder, but after learning more after the fact. I believe it was a puppy mill. Used a rescue service for a 2nd dog, could'nt be happier. Check into them, lots of info to be found.

When I researched the rescue sites, specifically single breed foster homes. The foster owners were very knowledgeable about certain traits for the specific breed I was looking for. They also knew each dogs traits and listed them. They usually had the dogs long enough to verify. Sorry yours did not work out for you.

agree with this. Wife and I had a similar experience when we got our spaniel-lab mix last summer. He's an unbelievably mellow dog and can't believe he was in the shelter for 3 months before we adopted him.

Both my dogs (Melo and Bear) were rescues. Bear was about 24 hrs from being put down (aggression). Augusta rides him like a horse and he smiles. They are both awesome dogs.

I always rescue. Have rescued so many I can't possibly count. More than 20 less than 100. We raised hunting Beagles and Bassets my whole life so everywhere I went as a kid I had at least 4-5 dogs with me. Never used a leash.

Could not imagine my life without dogs but I can tell you it would be missing something huge. I honestly like dogs more than I like people.

I have 2 rescue dogs and they couldn't be better pets!

My first was over 3 years ago and he is a Mini Schnauzer that was a Hurricane Katrina survivor. Had him for a year and went got him a buddy that is a Schnauzer/Terrier mix. They get along great and is pure entertainment watching them wrestle and play 3-4 times a day.

The rescue place was amazing....5 page application, a meet and greet, and they even came to home for an inspection to make sure they were going to a good home. It seemed like adopting a kid and they are MY KIDS!!!

WHEN I finally hit the lottery, a big chunk of the money will be to fund/support an open shelter.

Best of luck in finding your new best friend and here is a funny concerning pet vs girl friend....

Put your dog and your girlfriend in the trunk....when you open it back up....see which one is happier to see you:mj07:

that is the only thing that scares me agent. the aggression. if the dog bit one of the grandkids I couldn't forgive myself. I know it could happen with any dog, but at least with a puppy I'd know it's history... probably end up going that route, I do know one thing. it's been a couple months since i lost my dog and I don't like it at all. told the wife it isn't going to be like this much longer...

thanks for the help... GO COLTS...

To each their own, like Agent, my father prefers to rescue. Me, I want a puppy and partial to German Shepherds, even though a puppy is a lot of work, I train it my way and have NO worries, although I wouldn't enter my house on your own. Still trying to train mine to get me a beer....
