Ok gotcha Quag......I'll get back to ya.

Also.....are you "backpacking alone" or were you bringing a "significant other".

deucer.....not sure how young the kid is but when I was a little kid my parents took my brother and I to PEI and we did the lobster thing. I highly suggest you take the kid there. Have photos of "little kickserv" holding a lobster, good times, good times. I guess what I am saying is if you go to the East Coast, spend a day in PEI. It is freaky there though, like you are in "another world". Oh and no better place on earth to eat lobster....yummy:)

Bringing the little woman along with me. She is going to be the spotter, then it's up to me to kill our dinner. So basically we are going to starve.

Thanks for your help, Kick. I appreciate it... giggity!

You know what is funny....there are quite a few Canucks on madjacks, but I don't think there are any "East Coast Canucks" on madjacks?

Weird....very weird?

Thought some might "chime in", but I don't think there are any "East Coast Canucks" on here.

Man that is odd:confused:

What is Ontario considered?? That's pretty far east, isn't it?

"East Coast" is considered Atlantic Canada (map above).

Quag....what time of year were you thinking of? I am not sure if you are aware, but one hell of a temperature change between July and December:scared

:mj07: Yeah, I know it gets a little chilly in the fall and winter. I don't think we'll be able to go this summer, and the weather probably won't allow us to go in the winter, so I'm thinking next spring. We'll both have more vacation time saved up at that point anyway, so that would be ideal.

I've got the pics of me and my brothers holding up our lobsters that we caught when we were in PEI one summer. Woulda been about 1974 or so..when were you there, Kick? :mj07:
My parents were schoolteachers-- we'd go out for a month at a time in the summers when I was a kid--I've been to all the Canadian provinces----saw the Olympic games in Montreal in '76, too.
My two rug rats are a few years away from doing a PEI trip, but I'll hit you up for some info on places to stay etc etc when its time. :toast:

Now to help Quag, let us start off with a map of Canada......

PolEngMap.jpg

Ok, we got that out of the way.

Ok first off.........I will post my thought on "Atlantic Provinces" because after all this is an "Atlantic Provinces" thread. The number one province in Canada is Ontario (becuae that is where kickserv is from), so if you want ideas on Ontario I'll give em to ya. But I will have to start an "Ontario thread" for that to happen. So you can let me know on that. It is worth noting that kickserv has 4 parks and 9 streets named after him in Ontario. Plus all you have to do is mention my name at any hotel in Ontario and you stay for free. So maybe you might want to include Ontario on your destination list.

Alright..........here we go........

As stated earlier I think you just have to go to our smallest province Prince Edward Island. It is one laid back place that's for sure.

Is pretty cool taking the Ferry across the water and arriving on the island, in fact I would suggest taking the Ferry to Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. In other words rent a car and drive up the coast to the different provinces. You see where I am going, see all the provinces. Some by boat, some by car.

We are talking "slow pace" stuff, no wild partying I can tell you that. And in my opinion you can't go to Atlantic Canada and not have a lobster in PEI, you just can't. It is like going to a UFC fight and not bowing to GSP, it just ain't right.

If I were coming up from the USA and not driving, I'd fly into St. John's Nfld. and rent a car and go from there. As stated, hit the Ferries, you'll like it.

redsfann........the "little kickserv with a lobster photo" was taken in 1980.

The locals there must just hate all these kids holding lobsters while mommy and daddy take photos:mj07:

If you live down by the water, it must drive you nuts:

"Oh here we go again, some kid is holding a lobster":142smilie

If Quagmire goes there....he must post a picture of him holding a lobster:SIB

Thanks for the map. I had always heard of this distant land called 'Canada,' but until you put it into pictures I was clueless about it.

Seriously though, awesome information! I've always heard good things about PEI, so I think I will take a look at that, as well as the outlying areas. Thanks again.

That video is shot in a hotel room. What is this, Dateline NBC?? "How you doin', why don't you take a seat over there." (Dude puts down the bag of wine coolers he brought and sits down).

Some hotel rooms have stoves, you could do some lobster action anywhere...all ya need is hot water:SIB

And no problem Quag, glad to help. Of course Ontario is where I am a legend, so no free rooms for ya in PEI sorry:)

I would suggest you allow quite a bit of time if you decide to go, if you are out there you will want to see as much of the coast as possible.

I am not sure, but there might even be a cruise that goes from province to province, but that might not be your thing.

One thing is for sure though if you go to Atlantic Canada you better eat a lobster in PEI. And no, you don't have to eat it in a hotel room.

I realize this may sound crazy, but I'm not a big lobster guy. Actually, I'm not a big seafood guy in general. But yes, if I go I will definitely have some lobster.

I'm a ridiculous planner, so that won't be a problem. I think I researched flat-screens for about 6 months before I actually bought one, if that gives you any indication. :142smilie

So are you really a legend in Ontario? That's pretty impressive if you've got that kind of juice, I have to say. But I'm guessing those streets named after are you aren't 'Kickserv Avenue.' :SIB

kickserv avenue, kickserv street, kickserv crossing, you name it, I got it.

As for planning, it would take lots of planning. If you are going to cover a large area and islands no less you will need to plan accordingly. Remember, you can "get stuck" on PEI, if you miss the boat your only choice is to swim.

As for Lobster, it doesn't matter if you like seafood or not, you have to eat it if you are in PEI, they don't let you leave until you eat one. It is like a toll, you gotta pay the toll.:tongue

Not sure if you are a golfer or not, but the best value for golfing is in PEI, some incredible courses for an incredible value. Oh and the fairways are filled with lobster.

That's perfect for me, because the only golfing I do is lobster golfing. We usually assign point values for the lobsters we hit, depending on how far away they are.

As for getting stuck on PEI, I think a picture of me swimming the Atlantic after missing the ferry would be better than me holding a lobster. But that's just me...

Bay of Fundy?

Never been there, but had a professor tell us a story about it in class many years ago. If you like geographical points of interest it might be in the cards. If I remember correctly, because of its unique geographical position, the place has the largest difference between high and low tide (same day) in the world. Maybe 40-50 feet, don't recall for sure, but the picture comparisons of the bay from morning to evening looked pretty crazy.

Now that I type that, it actually doesn't sound all that impressive. :mj07:

Just throwing something out there to chew on...kick, have you ever been to the Bay of Fundy? What ya think...stupid suggestion?

Yep....been there, and yes it is crazy the difference from low tide to high tide:

http://www.bayoffundytourism.com/

Visit Atlantic Canada?s Bay of Fundy! Home to the highest tides in the world, the Bay of Fundy is a 270 km (170 mile) long ocean bay that stretches between the provinces of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia on Canada's east coast.

Each day 100 billion tonnes of seawater flows in and out of the Bay of Fundy during one tide cycle more than the combined flow of the world?s freshwater rivers!

Quag should add it on the list:SIB

Check out the difference in the tide:scared
