Hey Blitz...if your not sold on getting a Ford I would test drive a GMC Envoy prior to making your purchase. I bought one about eight months ago and love it...what a nice smooth ride and tons of HP(270!!!!).

GL...

jroot has good idea there very nice. Also take alook at new Chev trailblazer. You can get the inline 6, 270hp with improved gas mileage. They have a extended model this year that has nice V8 with 325hp. I test drove the 325 and thought I was back to the late 50's and 60's. Man that will take you where you need to go and smooth and quick.
I had a explorer liked it. But these two have my vote at this time. That is if your sticking with US product.

my brother drives one, i myself went with nissans xterra, but his explorer has had many problems from the tire fiasco to numerous engine problems. Other than that he loves it and would reccomend it.

Thanks for the responses guys!:thumb:

I test drove an Envoy today and really liked it a lot.

jroot, you were right, very smooth ride and plenty of balls.
only problem is it is a little more money than the Explorer I was looking at. Got to think about it!

jroot, do you have the smaller one or the extended version?

I've had an '03 for about a month now. Good ride, handles good, gets up and goes, pulls the boat well & lots of nice features...only two complaints

1) the warning alarms drive me beserk!!! (door is open, key in ignition, seat belt not fastened, etc.) I'd give $100 to know how to shut it off

2) gas cap is not on driver's side

I have a 93 Explorer with 145k miles. Its still a great ride. No probs other than usual wear and tear stuff. I dig the Xplorer.

I've driven/owned/been in Jimmys, Explorers and Blazers. I think they all suck.

I do like the power -- really gets you in the balls. But everyone of them seems to have either brakes/engines/electronic probs and they all have design flaws common to american cars.

My 94 Jimmy, for example, has the heat controls right behind the steering wheel, so you have to look around/through the steering wheel to use them. It also had a seat control lever that i caught my pants on every time I exited the vehicle until it broke off. Also, as a short guy, I simply can't comfortably reach the radio controls. The housing for the rear wiper drips into the car. The mechanism for opening the rear door is insanely stupid. The windshield wiper controls are on the same lever as the turn signals, so sometime when you flick the blinker on, the wipers either go on or off. Everything about it makes me

Basically what I'm getting at here is that being in the vehicle is a hassle. I'm not as familiar with the Explorer, but I suspect it's got its own set of crap like that Jimmy.

If the newer models have corrected a lot of the problems then these things don't matter, but I highly doubt they have. And these are things that you're not going to notice on a test drive. The newer Blazers and Explorers seem to have sloped the back in a bit, cutting down on space even more.

If you want American, get American, but I guarantee you'd have less hassle, and a better car, with an Xterra or Forester, or probably that Murano. The 4-wheel drive system of the Subarus is excellent.

TTm, bought the Murano for my wife on thursday as a matter of fact, picking it up today at 5pm. Silver of course;) Loaded to the gills and very sharp , smooth handling around corners, 18 inch chrome polished wheels, moonroof and it still gets 17-22 mpg I may have to steal it from her once in a while. I also looked into the Explorer, but i m not a FORD man at all. Envoy my cuz bought back in october and has already brought it to the dealer 3 times:nono: The Yukon Denali was my choice , but i think the wife would have divorced me :D

My second choice would have been the PATHFINDER SE 4 DR or the LEXUS RX300 loaded with everything but leather. Leather sucks especially when needing a baby seat. Its hot in the summer and cold in the winter. Only nice thing about it is having the dual heated seats.

Check out the Toyota Highlander, Pathfinder, many car sites to get on and research before deciding on a purchase. Many nice 0.00% rate deals going on as well. But im not one to want to have a $500-600 truck or car payment unless its for a nice Porshce 911 TURBO. or JAGUAR.

GL on your SUV buying:)

Blitz, not to sway you away, but just to let you know with the gas prices the way they are and shit, My cuz's ENVOY gets around 13-15 mpg.

Shrimp could not agree with you more. This Murano has so many safety features its crazy. BOSE system, 12 disk cd changer all types of gadgets we'll never use LOL. Im not one to go and purchase a Brand New model, and no offense to anyone by any means. But NISSAN/TOYOTA you cannot really go wrong. I will always always stick to japanese or euro buying. Except for that damn DENALI:)

I will be looking to lease a new SUV in a few months. Will take a 6cyl. with the way the gas prices are increasing. If antbody has a opinions on these feel free to express your thoughts on these:

Volvo SUV-This is a new model for them so not yet familiar with it yet.
Acura SUV--Also not familiar with the name.
Lexus 300----I saw Antonio mention that he was looking at this, but he didn't mention what he thought about it.
Toyota Highlander---Don't know if this is a 6cyl.

Blitz,

An friend gave me a site that reviews all autos, both new & used. That site is www.edmunds.com. Maybe this could help you.

TTM,

Thanks for your reply. I like the Lincoln Navigator, but it's too big. With the way gas prices are increasing, perfer a 6 cyl. I don't buy my autos, I lease instead.

I like the 4Runner & the Acura. But since I have had Acura's & Toyota's The Volvo is my #1 choice so far.
