Ford was lucky there were a lot of people who wanted a sports car but couldn't afford one, the Mustang fit the bill.

Through the years:

Early years, seriously it's just what I described above.

69 and early 70's Not really a bad effort.

78 WTF? T-Tops, really? And that front end is an abortion.

79 and all the 80's is automotive failure at it best. Honestly, WTF?

2000 Now you're just trying to be a Civic....fail.

2007 Shelby GT 500 Fair enough, nice car.

Don't forget they evolved from the Falcon and used many of the same parts.

The Mustang was designed to be a girls car and reached out to that genre.
