great post pt1gard!!! It is nice to see a couple of posts on here that are actually well thought out and written......cause 72% of them aren't!! :mj07:
sun and gman2,
its cool you guys are peas in a pod these days but you have never coached nor understand the difference of being a hard ass, like i am, while being able to nurture players w/o physically intimdating them...
what Knight did isnt about 'pussification' nor being all right b/c other coaches do this ... where exactly are other coaches plugging kids in the chops--Ive been in gyms for 30 years and never seen it ... its wrong period ... where does the line get drawn on physical contact, is it ok to slap a woman when she doesnt act right? you guys really amuse me ... Ive been around some great men and coaches and they all think what Knight does is deplorable, but i guess certain segments "like it" since they condone it ...
mcity and box, excellent posts, I agree with all you said 100% ... mcity you were in my head about everything; esp. knight needs to be punked once, and when you wrote about a kid standing up to him he slinked like all cowards do
take care

dude you are just a clueless nitwit who wouldn't know a good coach from a bad one. I havent seen one field you actually know something about. I show you how to coach with some coaches and you can't even pick up what im saying. You shouldn't even be handicapping with your limited knowledge. Makes me wish i could have my book again. Guys like you built my house.Great Post Pt1gard!!!!
:box2: :box2: :box2: Down goes SunTzu! Down goes SunTzu!
- And so that the record is straight, It wasnt even Sun Thread, he posted in a thread I already posted in.
FWIW I like Knight, I find his history very interesting, and I have heard alot of great things about him as well. But I find what he did to be wrong, and like many guys here have said, his actions are getting old. I doubt that many HC hit other players and I know they don't do it during the games, where it embarrasses the hell out of the kid more than physically hurt him.
Pure overkill IMO. ESPN just beat this thing to death. Everyone has an opinion and is rightfully entitled to it. I had a full scholarship to college for hoops at the NAIA level, and have been through or seen a lot worse than that. He has baggage therefore this gets the coverage. For what it is worth, I would play for him. In this day and age when the NBA players are coddled and many get in trouble with the law, maybe they could have used a little discipline like Knight. To each their own. There is no on the fence with him, either you like him or not.

Well i coached bro and i threw a bat at a kid in center field and it would have hit him if he didn't jump. I felt terrible about it but it wised this punk up. To say he was plugging the kid in the chops makes me think you coached bad mitten. To trash these other guys for their thoughts because somehow they were not coaches is a joke in itself. By the way i won two championships out of three years and the one i didn't win was the most gratifying because i had the worst team in the world and built confidence in those kids and by the end we were feared. Ill say another thing most coaches are nitwits. You don't find doctors and lawyers coaching. You find gym teachers. that is why their are so many terrible coaches around. You take a guy like Larry Brown who has everyone conned who can not say one sentence without the words "you know" in front of them. He doubles the ball handler every time and a three point shooting team beat him all the time. He took the two best teams in the world the pistons and our Olympic team and embarrassed both of them but he is a god because the press fills it in empty heads. the biggest mistake i made in my life was not to continue to coach because the nitwits in it now i could beat with a shitty team.
