I came home from work tonight in San Antonio and checked the lines for this game. I was figuring that Arizona could possibly be a slight favorite because of Walton's injury and that Texas has had this game circled since they blew the big lead they had last year along with the 2 injuries.

10.5-11??????????

Am I missing something here?

LOL, do you really think Walton makes that much of a difference??? Arizona was actually playing much better without him.

The talk has been that the team is as focused as they were for the Western Kentucky game. . . think they lost that focus the past couple games because they weren't playing real competition (as evidenced by the attempted spectacular plays against San Diego State which led to the game being much closer in the end than the game really was). Obviously, that changes on Sunday.

Make no mistake about it Kevin, Arizona's 2nd team could beat Texas.

I'll be most interested in the total. . . think both teams could reach 90 without a problem as both love to run

I take it you haven't seen this team yet except maybe a little against SDSU??? LOL

I've seen Texas. . . good team, but nothing special IMO. Arizona loves running against teams that love to run. The Horns bring nothing new to the table as they haven't the past several years these teams have played.

GL just the same. . . and yes, if you think the line at 10.5 or 11 is too high, you are missing something

Actually the answer is NO....I haven't seen Arizona play this year at all. But I do have a question for you...

If you "think both teams could reach 90 without a problem as both love to run"......

What's the final score?

Looks like a COVER for me!!!!

TEXAS +11 5 units

Thanks Nickelback for solidifying my pick.

Didn't realize I was talking to a little kid. . . of course when I said both could reach 90, I didn't set a limit did I? Hmmmmm. . . little past your bedtime eh Kevin

You really got me there. . .

Anyways, should be a quality win. . . i just hope the value doesn't run out on playing Arizona the rest of the year. I was afraid after the Western Kentucky game, but luckily I think we still have plenty of value.

Best of luck. . .

Actually your not and I just mentioned I just got home from work so.......

Not past my bedtime yet;)

Nickel I just think that Texas has a lot reasons to play very well in this game. You talk like Texas doesn't have deep bench. Last I checked they have 9 players averaging over 14 min a game and yes I do think that Walton will affect Arizona's play. Hell he's only their leading assist man.

Good Luck.

It should be one of the best early games of the year.

Well I think this game will be a track meet from the start but I'm not sure what the total is yet either.

I've heard Lute is going to the press on us this year. That could be because of Walton being out but regardless I think this leads to a lot of easy buckets for us. Pressing against the Longhorns is like "going for it" on 4th-and-2 from your own 30-yard line against the football Longhorns.

I respect your capping abilities Nickelback but your comment about AZ's 2nd team being able to beat UT's 1st is a bit excessive. I realize you have a deep and talented bench but Barnes' first three options are two McD A-As and a guy who hit all six of his threes the other day.

not trying to be a jerk

not trying to be a jerk

but the fact that they are up for this one like the game against the hilltoppers makes me laugh. w. kentucky had some hype coming in this year but look at what they have done.

12/07 at Murray St -1 NL 72-83 Lost ---
12/03 at Evansville -5 NL 76-81 Lost ---
12/01 Auburn +3 NL 89-70 Won ---
11/26 Va Commonwealth -10 NL 80-73 Lost ---
11/23 at Arizona +17.5 NL 68-107 Lost

bottom line on this one - i will take 10 points on a team that has played some decent teams this year, has only lost one of those, and still hasn't played 40 minutes of solid ball (yes your point on the defense does seem to be true). give me the 10 and let me hope for a fun, close, up and down game.

good luck

Felonious Monk,

Arizona has a full court press for every minute of every game. . . that was Lute's words at the beginning of the year. . . it is nothing new for the game against Texas and certainly has nothing to do with Walton being out. Arizona has been working on different setups for the press so it will be interesting to see what Lute decides to go with for the game agaisnt the Horns.

The reason I say Arizona's 2nd team could beat Texas is that Arizona simply does not lose anything when they go to their bench! It is well publicized and very true. It is not a knock on the Horns at all. . . Arizona's 2nd team could very well be in the top 5 in the country (as many have stated in the newspapers, magazines, TV, etc). Laugh all you want, I thought people already knew what to expect from this team given all the hype they have encountered from the beginning of the season. . . this game should be an indication of how realistic all of those comments were. From what I have seen, I expect them for the most part to be accurate. But yes, I am a biased Arizona fan as well so who knows! There are many aspects of Arizona's game that still needs to be worked on such as turnovers and going for the spectacular play as opposed to simply ensuring the ball goes in the hoop.

Can't wait for the game to start. . . should be 40 minutes of quality, fast paced basketball.

Nickleback,

Arizona is good...........very good ...and you have every reason to back your team.......BUT.......CT came to Arizona last year as a double digit dog ........facing most of these guys .............and you Know what happened.

Texas certainly has a shot at this game and would not be surprised to see Arizona get a test here.

2nd team........ top 5........maybe but............I dont think so...

Bear,

Certainly a good point that you bring up in the fact that an upset can happen especially with how UConn came in and pounded the Cats last year. . . but two different teams and Arizona is much different this year in nearly every aspect (#1 reason is depth). To use your argument, Arizona won by double digits last year at Texas, but no question that Texas is a better team and Arizona better as well.

As for the 2nd team. . . well, we'd of course never know but it is fun to consider. #1 problem would be how young the team would be but their best asset would be athletic ability especially with Hassan Adams.

Just a little over an hour to go and I'm trying to wait patiently, but its not easy.

Arizona has a full court press for every minute of every game
Just got back to this post. Just to clarify, I was pointing out that the Cats did not press us last year.

It was a great game to watch yesterday. I'm not sure how much Walton would have really helped UA to be perfectly honest. Him not playing had a lot less of an effect on how they did things than I was expecting. Obviously, the more good players you put on the floor, the better your team is going to be, but I really don't think he would have been the difference maker that he was last year against us.

Defensively, we played our best game in years. We had a few little lapses, and I would have liked to see us get back in transition a little better, but in half court, our defense was awesome. Unfortunately, so was Arizona's. :)

Congrats on the win and see you guys in the Final Four!

Marquette plays AZ on Saturday and I listened to Tom Crean give his scouting report on AZ and he believes this is the best team in the country talent wise. What I heard from him is good enough for me to take AZ tonite.

it's commonplace for a coach to relay good things about their opponent through the media. it shows a distinguished respect towards their program in general and even makes Crean look better from a public standpoint in doing so. However, sunshine pumping does not equate into getting a win.

btw, this is an old thread. i bumped it back up to show what was discussed about this game from last year.
