Went to French Lick over weekend as a surprise on
my 60th b-day. Stayed at French Lick. West Baden was booked.

Room was clean but small as it was remodeled from old days. Staff was generally friendly but a little undertrained as in "I don't know" as opposed to "Let me see if I can find out."

One thing I did notice at the casino was the patience of the dealers with newbies. By the same token, some of the dealers (BJ) were incredibly slow. Okay for newby, though.

West Baden facility was pretty incredible considering the age of the original structure. General amenities were expensive in midwest terms. My sports massage was $135.

Nice, clean buffet at French Lick. $10 for breakfast, $13 for dinner. The upscale restaurant was booked for Sat. evening so I'm assuming it's good.

Played golf at the Donald Ross designed golf course. Beautiful layout in the hills of southern Indiana. Very challenging with exteme undulation in the greens. $110 w/cart, $75 after 12:00.

Overall good experience.

Was down there about 6 weeks ago. We stay in the time share condos behind the hotel and play different golf courses in the area.

We were disappointed last year because we could not play the hill course due to construction and upgrades. So we were extremely upset when we found out the course was dried out and several holes were cart path only.

We did not play the Hill Course again this year, but I don't know if I would at $110 per round.

I was not impressed with the casino and found the staff to be rude.

My only positive comment is for the wonderful food and service we had at Hagen's. This is the dining room at the Hill Course clubhouse. Excellent service and wonderful food. Our waitress went above and beyond and made sure we were comfortable. Also, the West Baden hotel has been restored to a masterpiece. Very impressive. Walked around one night and had a few cocktails in the atrium/open air lobby. You would not guess you were in French Lick, Indiana.

I would not make a special trip down there, especially when it takes 3 hours from Indy and I can be to Argosy, Grand Vic, Belterra or Caesar's in 2 hours or less.

Yeah, I know. Played at 12:10 and got the $75 rate. I kept saying that we shouldn't, but wife wanted me to enjoy my 60th and I do like to golf and rarely play great designed courses. Besides I'd won $6 the night before shooting craps.:00hour

The one aspect I didn't like is the access to the area. That may change with I69. I'll probably go to Lawrenceburg area casinos as far as proximity.

Have played the Belterra course and liked it. I'm a legitimate 12 hdcp. Liked Argosy's gaming just fine, tho.

Above 3 paragraphs were to Agent when I saw your reply, Roll. Exactly, much easier to Argosy, etc. Course was beautiful from the many elevated
tees. Didn't eat at Hagens but wished I had based on your review. Ate at the French Lick Winery and had very good Italian food.

I found some staff rude, too, but I still believe a lack of training was a part of it. You had local people with a certain culture established with their upbringing that didn't translate to good service.
