It's the time of year to point out a few things that maybe some of you are not aware of. The next few weeks are going to be heart-breakers for some of you. Between now and the play-offs you are going to see some of the screwiest lines and screwiest basketball of the year. You will hear announcers making excuses for the unusual play and sometimes it gets down right funny. Whether you like Bill Walton or not, he will tell you what is going on and whoever is doing the game with him will tell you he is crazy. Another one that will shoot straight with you is Charles. I respect Kenny and Ernie for not taking the NBA's side when they know he is telling the truth. Danny Ainge (and before him, Doug Collins) doesn't pull any punches either. Here's a few of the things that we will be up against.
It's about time to start playing for ping pong balls. NY would have to go 20-5 to have a shot at the play-offs. It would be easier to catch Chi and Mem who are only 7 games ahead in the race for the ping pong balls. Other teams that might decide to take a shot at it are Hou, Den, and Atl. GS is only 3 games out.
You will also see the teams that are in letting the weakest of the wantabees win. The weaker the competition the better for them.
They will also try to hurt the best team in other divisions by trying to keep them from having home court. This means they try to beat #1 or lose to #2. Home court is a hugh advantage in the NBA play-offs.
When a team is out of contention or has a spot locked, you will start seeing players you didn't even know were on the roster. Two major reasons for this. Keep the starters from getting hurt if the are already in or spot-lighting someone they intend to trade in the off-season. Trouble is, they don't tell you so and so is going to be playing 22 min when he has been playing only 5 all year.
Watch for the front runners to start concentrating a d. Without at least a good d you won't get very far in the play-offs. Watch Vegas drop the lines on some of those high scoring teams and the public jump on the over.
These are just some of the pit-falls that will come into play in the next few weeks and I have probably overlooked as many as I have mentioned. I hope this helps someone make the right play or stay off a wrong play. Good luck everyone
