yesterday 4-4, -350 Why? Jimmy? Why?
overall 64-61, +258

Alright, alright, enough whining..........

With only one day game, I had some extra time to dig around and put up my thoughts.

Cinci+140 x2.5 (Hamilton/Clement)
Even though the Reds got a some help from Jimmy in getting the surprise come-from-behind win yesterday, it seems like they're starting to buy into Boone's philosphy of of playing fundamental baseball, staying close in the game, move one base at a time. With Encarnacion on 1st in the 10th, Dunn attempted to bunt twice to get him over to 2nd, depite Boone shaking off the bunt sign after the 1st strike. "I just kept thinking that if he gets to 2nd, we have 2 chances to get him home". After he gets on with a single after getting 2 strikes, Aaron Boone promptly sacs both to 2nd and 3rd. That game was a huge confidence boost for the ailing Reds, and is exactly what they needed coming into Chicago. All newspaper reports in Cinci is that emotions are high and everyone is looking forward to coming to Chicago, who they went 15-30 against last few years. Hamilton has pitched well early in the season, giving up 2, 1, 2ER in his 3 starts.

Chicago is going in the other direction, however. Leadoff man De-Shields isn't getting on base with regularity, one reason five of Sosa's six homers are solos. Moises Alou was 1-for-10 in Montreal in his season debut and is shaking off the rust from his injury layoff. . Fred McGriff is trying to survive with a .250 average and inconsistent swings. ''Fred told me he feels out of balance, that he's constantly dropping his hands,'' Pentland said. ''He said he's never had a hitch in his swing. Now he's feeling one. He is working on a wider stance to get his legs more involved.'' All I hear in Chicago this young season is that "When Alou comes back things will change, and when Mueller gets healthy they'll be even better" No one is taking responsiblities for the inept offensive output, they have one of the most unselfish players in the game in Sammy who doesn't talk much and leads by example. Cubs offense produced a pathetic 55 runs is 14 games, take out the 10 in Cinci and 8 in Montreal, they have a whopping 37 in 12 games, ouch! Clement has great raw talent and excellent stuff when he's on, no doubt about that, striking out 12, walking none in 7IP in Pitt (from someone who lead the majors in walks 2 years ago), but he had major motivation in that game as 30 of his friends and family came to watch him pitch from Pitt suburbs where he grew up. An asterisk on his stats is that both his starts were vs Pitt, who are LAST in NL in batting! Add to the fact that Clement has a day ERA of over 5.6 in his career, vs 4.5 at night. I'm not betting on him to have an encore performance. Cubbies also had wasted 1/2 of their off day because of mechanical failure in their chartered flight and had to stay iin Montreal an extra day, not getting home until yesterday afternoon.

GOOD LUCK!!

If you like Cinci, I would wait a little, as the line should keep going up. My local just put out -180/+160, and I'm seeing online sportsbooks putting out -160/+145's.

Good Luck!

Thanks, TTMM, good luck to you today as well. Looks like I'm gonna start the day a loser so far. Made a last minute wager on Cubbie under, and that one's looking shakey too.

Adding.........

Spos+110 x2 (Armas/Trachsel)
Under9 x2
A rematch of the same starters in a game that finished 6-4 on 4/14, but both team only managed 6 hits apiece. Spos regulars seem to hit Trachsel well (Guerrero .458, Stevens .333, Bergeron .200, Barrett .417, Cabrerra .400, Vidro .286). 4 of Armas 5ER vs Mets last game were courtesy of 2 Alomar homers. The rest of the Mets regulars combine for 5-35 vs Armas.

Yanks/Jays Under9 x2 (Prokopec/Mussina)
Moose is on fire, no doubt about that. The question is how will Prokopec do vs the Yanks hitters, who rocked him for 7ER in 2IP on 8H. He might have been thrown off a little because of the rainout in Boston that delayed his scheduled start. He has redeemed himself with a solid outing vs TB giving up 1ER in 5IP and earning his 1st win. He started out strong last yr, only giving up more than 3ER once in his 1st 8 starts for the Dodgers. Assuming that Moose is on his game, this game has a good chance of going under.

Philly/Pitt Under8-120 x2 (Padilla/Fogg)
2 budding young star-starters vs Pitt team dead last in team batting avg. First time Philly will be facing Fogg who pitches around the plate which could give Philly bats some problems the 1st couple of time around.

GOOD LUCK!! Looks like I'll need it.

St.L-120x2 (Timlin/Quevedo)
Over10 x1
Should see bullpen for both teams early. Timlin 1st start since'91, Quevedo should be booted to BP or AAA.

Bos/KC Over8.5x2 (Pedro/George)
Pedro seems to have trouble finding his groove. When he does he's great, but seems to be a different pitcher from 1 inning to the next.

Det/ChiSox Over10x2 (Sparks/Wright)
Red hot Sox bats seeing Sparks for the 2nd time. But I'm not willing to lay 170 with Wright on the mound for the good guys.

Injuns-145 x1 (Sabathia/Lohse)
See ndnfan's thread, another great read. :)
Will go another unit if Mienky is in for Ortiz.

GOOD LUCK!!!!

What the hell is going on in Minny, Chicago and Milwaukee? Sheesh!

Rangers+165x2 (Rogers/Abbott)
Yes, I'm crazy. But getting out on the road might be a good thing for these guys, not having to hear the home town fans boo their asses. Abbott has not impressed. Cameron sitting this one out. M's might just sleepwalk through this one.

Rockies+125x2 (Neagle/Stottlmeyer)
2nd start in 19months for Stot who skipped the last one d/t the flu. Pitched ok last game but tired out real fast. Zona had to use 3 or more RPs in 6 of last 8, 7 of last 10. I think the Rockies will be able to bitch-slap singles and doubles off of Stottlemeyer to death.

GOOD LUCK!! Looks like a bad nite all around for most of us.
