Houston at Cincinnati (3) 15th, 16th, 17th
The Astros, winners of 10 of 11 (+$740) vs. Cincy, are in the midst of a playoff war and are not likely to relax. The Astros? best hopes lie with Ron Villone, who has filled in nicely for the Astros since being elevated to a starter and is 2-0 lifetime with a 2.35 ERA vs. his old team and Wade Miller, who is 5-0 lifetime vs. Cincy and 2-0 this year with a 2.38 ERA. The Reds? Danny Graves has been mauled on three occasions this season (0-3, 8.47 ERA, 40 hits plus walks in 17 innings) and we?ll be shocked, but pleased if he gets the nod in this series. BEST BET: Miller/Villone /Astros vs. Graves.
Arizona at Atlanta (4) 15th, 16th, 17th, 18th
The Diamondbacks are alive in the wildcard race and need every ?W? desperately, but that doesn?t mean they?ll gain much ground against the best home team (40-17, +$1235) in the NL. We?ll skip the first projected match up featuring both teams? lowest ranked starter, Shane Reynolds and Elmer Dessens. Go against Randy Johnson. He?s yet to find his rhythm and is only 3-4 lifetime vs. Atlanta with a 5.17 ERA. The Braves have manhandled southpaws (21-8, +$1090) all season and, with the Big Unit as the opponent, the price will be attractive. BEST BET: Braves vs. Johnson.
San Diego at Florida (3) 15th, 16th, 17th
The Marlins took two of three in San Diego (+$100) and that pattern will continue in the Sunshine state. We hate to lay 2-1 or better, but with Dontrelle Willis (11-2, 2.56 ERA) scheduled, we?re willing to make an exception. San Diego is 10-21 (-$810) vs. southpaws including 3-8 on the road averaging just 3.5 RPG. The Marlins have won and 14 of 19 and have a reasonable chance of brooming the Padres. BEST BET: Marlins in all games.
