Detroit Tigers (24-29) at Minnesota Twins (28-25), 8:10 p.m.
Probable Starting Pitchers: Detroit - Mike Maroth (4-3, 4.41) Minnesota - Kyle Lohse (2-4, 5.87)
(Sports Network) - Kyle Lohse will try and get the Minnesota Twins back on the winning track this evening when they kick off a three-game set with the Detroit Tigers at the Metrodome.
Lohse has struggled this season, but enters tonight's tilt following a win over the Kansas City Royals on Sunday. In that contest the 25-year-old righty allowed three runs - two earned - on nine hits over five innings to improve to 2-4 on the year, while lowering his earned run average 5.87.
In eight lifetime matchups with the Tigers, Lohse is 5-1 with a 4.20 ERA.
Minnesota dropped three of four to the Devil Rays, including a 5-2 loss in Thursday's series finale. Lew Ford homered and Henry Blanco drove in a run for the struggling Twins, who have dropped two straight and 12 of their last 18 games.
Minnesota starter Johan Santana was flirting with a no-hitter until the sixth inning. Santana (2-4) lost control and his fourth straight decision, yielding four runs on four hits in 7 2/3 innings. He walked four and fanned seven.
The Twins, who are in the midst of a 13-game stretch at home, are 15-11 at home this season.
Detroit, meanwhile, split its four-game series with the Kansas City Royals, but lost Thursday's finale. 9-6. Carlos Guillen and Craig Monroe each had two runs batted in for the Tigers, who have dropped eight of their last 11 contests.
Jeremy Bonderman (4-5) suffered the loss after surrendering seven runs on nine hits in three-plus innings. He walked three and fanned four.
The Tigers will pin their hopes tonight on Mike Maroth, who has lost his last two decisions and is 4-3 on the year with a 4.41 ERA. However, he is coming off a no-decision in his last outing, despite a great effort. In that contest the 26-year-old lefthander allowed an unearned run on six hits in seven innings.
Maroth, who received a no-decision against the Twins earlier in the year, has faced the Twins eight times in his career and is 2-5 against them with a 4.24 ERA.
Detroit is 12-13 away from home this season.
Minnesota has split its six games with the Tigers this season, but is 47-15 against them since the start of the 2001 campaign. The Twins have also posted a 27-4 mark at home versus Detroit in that time.
