yankees

OK, the Yankees won't wrap this series up in three games
as we originally suspected, but we'll look for them to get
back on track with a victory tonight. The lefty against lefty
matchup clearly favors New York, a team that averages
5.5 runs per game vs. southpaws as opposed to the Tigers'
4.7 per game in that same situation. Kenny Rogers has
trouble when facing quality teams like the Yankees, and
has been less reliable down the stretch. Detroit used up
it's bullpen yesterday, so they'll have a hard time holding
down the Yankees after Rogers is out of the game. The
Yankees pen is more rested, and they remain the far better
team. If Johnson can put together five effective innings this
one could get decided early.

If this game comes down the the bullpens, which is likely, give me Detroit. Would have to think Zumaya is a go tonight.

Yankees-Tigers over 9.5 strong

There will be plenty of runs scored tonight at Comerica and this game will go over. The Tigers have stayed under just twice in their last 11 games and Detroit pitching has allowed 54 runs in its last seven games. Kenny Rogers (0-3, 8.85 nine playoff appearnces) will struggle against this potent Yankee lineup. The New York roster is batting a combined .365 against him in his career and this Yankee team has scored 66 runs in its last nine games. Rogers, who gave up five eraned in his last start back on Sept. 28 before being hit hard out of the bullpen last Sunday versus the Royals, has a 6.45 ERA in 35 games against the Yankees.

And I'm not thinking that Randy Johnson, who has not pitched since Sept. 28 because of a sore lower back, is going to be sharp this evening. He's given up five earned in each of his last three starts and only once in his last seven starts has he allowed less than four earned. He has a 5.01 in 18 road starts, 11 which went over. Both Johnson and Rogers have seen four of their last five starts go over the total and this one will, too.
