Well sure it is, but I guess it is how you use it or how you take it. Personally, I think it is just a word and people choose to make it derogatory. Over the years many words have taken on different meanings. I couldn't give two shits if someone gets twisted over a fucking word to be honest with you. I think it's idiotic to care about a stupid word and it isn't just racial terms. Don't get me wrong, certain words can be very derogatory. Nigger is a term that is/was considered derogatory towards black people, but then again so is black depending on who you talk to. I don't use the word in my vernacular but the term is used more often by blacks referring to blacks without correction as not being "politically correct". Much like African American or Asian American. Why is it that it is okay to say someone is African American when they were born in Kansas for fucks sake. What if you were describing your new boss or whatever and said he was African American and the guy is French Canadian? Are you being derogatory? Fuck no, you are trying to be politically correct so as not to piss anyone off. Fuck em, they'll get over it and so should everyone else.

Look, I could give a rat's ass whether someone is Jewish, Italian, Tongan, or Maori. I like everyone. I think it is ridiculous that everyone is so worried about what to call who, it is stupid.

As a kid, all the boys in every school I attended used the term faggot. If you wore a scarf, "Oh look, he has a scarf on, what are ya..........a fag?"
Every single one of them said it all the time as well as calling someone a pussy or whatever, it happens. My friend Chris B. is gay as hell and he uses the term regularly, as well as several other terms that some term as "sensitive". Fuck em, get over it, it's a word. The minute I can watch a marathon on Comedy Central of stand up comedians and not here a single "white people are so stupid" joke I will worry about using the term wop.
If it is derogatory for one, it is for all. I don't play that bullshit. You don't get to use a term every day and then turn around and get pissed because someone else uses it (not you in particular saint, I mean anyone in general) because they aren't "allowed". Bullshit.

Besides, making fun of stereotypes isn't ever going away. It's funny and it's funny because of the stereotype. I don't make the rules brother. I am about the furthest thing you can find from a bigot, whether it be by race, gender, sexuality, or anything else. I like everyone equally and hate everyone equally.

Obviously, you don't know what wop means. Wop was/is an acronym from Ellis Island that stands for "Without papers". There were two signs that immigrants saw when arriving at Ellis Island. With papers and without papers, it has nothing to do with Italians. Now, Dago, refers to Italians but that little nickname was borne of the immigrating Italians not knowing how to write in English as all papers were only written in English at the time. Arriving immigrants, when asked to write their name, would often copy each others paperwork. The most popular name at the time in Italy was Diego, so most wrote that as their name. Once they left Ellis island, most settled in New York or Boston in areas that were predominately Irish immigrants. The Irish, due much to their accent and limited English comprehension, could not really pronounce Diego as Dee-ay-goe so it sounded much more like Daygo, hence the long standing term.
I would think if you were half Dago, you would know these things.

You obviously are not correct totally. I have heard wop many times aimed at Italians. I don't know why you feel the need to talk down to people as if you know it all, Cris. Seems to be happening more and more on here.

I was responding to the Boys as to the context of the term as I intended it and the origin of the words. While I am sure he immediately comes to mind when considering posters on here that is most deserving of any reciprocal compassion, respect, and kindness he has shown others on the forum over time, I don't. In my response to saint I immediately acknowledged that the term wop has been used as an Italian reference. The rest is just fun trivial fact. I don't know how I can read about a historical little tidbit some time ago, paraphrase it years later on an internet forum. and subsequently be told I am talking down or at someone.
