Anyone ever heard of this? I placed this bet with a Starnet book last week. They are telling me its a loser. Although they ended up tied for 72 holes, since Sluman shot a lower score on Sunday, he wins.

This is Starnet's response;

Dear Sir,
We are in receipt of your concern. We however can validate the results of
your wager:

1) BET ID=2495510
Straight Wager 08/23/00 19:08 ET
120.00/100.00 Result: Wager Lost

Reno-Tahoe Open 4 Day Matchups

Fred Funk 0
Jeff Sluman 1 08/24/00 (10:35 ET)
Fred Funk -120

According to golf rules as taken from the web site:

"For matchup betting all of the players listed in the matchup bet offer must
tee off for your bet to have action. The player with the most completed
holes wins. If the players complete the same number of holes, then the
player with the lowest score wins. For betting purposes, if the players are
still tied then the winner will be deemed the player who scored the lowest
score in the last round played and so on, until a winner is found. If both
golfers in a match-up are in a playoff a) winner of play-off wins the
match-up and b) all other playoff participants tie each other."

The highlighted item above refers specifically to your wager:

Fred Funk, $30,000 72-70-71-70-283
Jeff Sluman, $30,000 71-72-71-69-283

So Jeff Sluman was deemed the winner because he had the lowest score in the
final round. Please let us know if you require further clarification.

Kind regards

Never heard of it before. I'm pretty sure no-one else operates that rule.

Tough luck Fats

I have never heard of it before either. Of course it comes and bites me in the ass! I'm not sure how I feel about the rule in general though. I mean I could have won the bet as well.....

Fats Sure was not aware of that either.Have account with Starnet book and went back through history and could not find 72 hole tie to refer to on my account.
I am in the process of real doosy myself with another book.Am giving them some time to rectify so can't complain yet.Its damn right funny.I'll give you the low down later when I found out whats going on but am currently locked out of account.Believe its a case of mistaken identity which I find amusing, so far

Fats,
Have had that situation arise on a couple of occasions, but fortunately I already knew about the rule.
Starnet are alone in the use of this rule, and it is not a bad one - sure beats the hell out of ties lose.

INTERTOPS also has a tie breaker procedure that insures no ties. They use holes if the last round is tied. I "luckily" found out about it when I had a PUSH WIN and couldn't figure out why. I then found the explanation buried in their rules.
