Okay, so I wake up around noon today (life's rough, fella's). After lumbering out of bed, I log-in to MadJacks. I didn't look at the NBA games for today last night -- as is my usual custom. So today, I decide to coattail some of the talent here at the Forum. I've done that quite a lot and done well with the plays for the most part.
I read the NBA Forum and the college NCAA Forum. The Colorado State Rams look like a lock to rout Denver (the college team, not the Nuggets). So, I go with Colo State.
On to the NBA Forum. Lots of reading. Lots of good persuasive arguments. I decide to do a "faith" play based on reputation. I go with Hoops who says take DETROIT tongiht laying -5 points. There are a lot of posters I respect and coattail. Most of the time I want some kind of write-up or justification. But with Hoops and a few others, this is one capper I know does his work so I'll just go along without knowing nothing about the game.
So, a couple of hours go by. I drive over the Gold Coast. I go into the Sportsbook. I look up and get confused (imagine). I get thrown off by Denver being both a college and NBA team. I am also colorblind so I can't see the color light differentiation on the board between the games. They usually run yellow and red alternate colors for each game so all the teams don;t blend with each other. Anyways, I look up to get the number and I see DETROIT is playing INDIANA. What the fawk is that, I ask myself? DETROIT can't be laying -5 to INDIANA at Indianapolis. No way. I figure I must have remembered the teams wrong.
I see the Denver Nuggets are getting +5 at Memphis. Suddenly, I remember that angle where you play AGAINST a team that shot 10 percentage points higher than their seaosn average the night before (Memhis anihiliated Miami last night with 58 percent shooting). I figure THIS must be the game Hoops was recommending. I know, ridiculous. I felt like a freakin' tourist standing there all confused.
So, I go to the window and lay $220 on Denver and $220 also Colorado State whihc is laying -15.
I know somehting is wrong with this bet, but I still like it since I know I am on the right side of the angle, Hoops (I thought) had touted it, and also the evidence for a Colorado State route is overwhelming.
I head over to the Mirage and catch the first half of the Nuggets game. The fawkers don't even show up. The Grizzlies (for crissakes) are up by 14 at the half. Denver has 37 points and is one of the worst 2H teams in the NBA. Talk about being fawded for the day. I play some Omaha High-low for an hour, then head back home convinced by Nugget action is screwed.
Turn on the computer at home. Colorado State up by 20+ Good news. At least I got a push today -- minus the $20 in juice. I decide to check the Nuggets score to see how bad they lost and see they are up by 3 points with 35 seconds remaining!
Awesome. A $420 swing on a game I thought was down the drain.
Memphis -- 3 pointer. 93-93
Denver misses shot. Foul.
Memphis sinks two FTs. 95-93
Denver misses shot. Foul.
Memphis sinks one FT. 96-93
13 seconds left.
I can see this game ending in a very ugly fashion. Denver misses the shot, and the the intenional fouls. Thankfully, the game ends and Denver covers. Nice win.
I then come to the Forum and see that Hoops touted DETROIT which won easily. That game was never in question with Pistons ahead by double digits the entire game. Instead, I had bet the wrong game, and still managed a win with a break.
Not much else to say except be careful with these teams. And thanks Hoops.
