furman +9-: negligent in not getting this posted earlier as line has dropped a point since this morning, but like the paladins in this spot for a lot of reasons. i'll post a writeup as soon as i'm done at work.

lotta reasons to like furman tonight. until april of this year, paladin coach jeff jackson was not only an assistant under vandy coach stallings for seven years but was also the commodore recruiting coordinator, and personally recruited every player currently on the vanderbilt roster. in addition, furman assistant coach james strong was also on the vandy staff, and played point guard for the 'dores under stallings. you just can't buy scouting insight like that.

furman returns four starters from the team that played at vandy last year, and even led by two at the half of that game before the home team blew them out in the second half with 70% shooting from the floor, a feat not likely to be duplicated tonight. this year's vandy team doesn't shoot nearly as well as last year's nit team, in fact, furman shoots better across the board than vandy, including 79% from the ft line, despite the fact that their last three games have been on the road (all three furman covers btw). and while tonight's game is furman's fourth road game in a row, it's been six days since their last game and they should be well rested and well prepared for their coach's homecoming tonight.

stallings has altered the commodore's offense to a more up-tempo approach this year, and that may be adversely affected by the absence of f alan metcalf, and athletic freshman who had won a staring role in stalling's new system. metcalf missed vandy's home contest with elon a couple of nights ago, and the commodores won by eleven as 18- point favorites after allowing elon to make a nine point second half comeback. furman is a much better soco team than elon, especially on the boards, and should give vandy a close game given the prep time, scouting edge and extra motivation.

I like the pick and i played a little myself...my hesitation for not betting more is that strange court that vandy plays on could mess with the minds of furman (especially in the first half)...if they hang tough in first half i think we will be okay.

Great call. I took Vandy on the ML in a parlay, and of course, it's the last remaining game:142smilie

Well done.
