So...yes, for the 1st time I'm going to miss a carolina fball opener in 9 years. Being stuck in cinci and having time warner cable, i was planning on ordering gameplan for the day. it's about 20 bucks for the day...i really don't feel the need for the whole season because of how busy w/ work i am. normally i'd pony up the 130 but all i have time for is carolina games, and i doubt there will be more than a few on their schedule.

So I call up TWC. Try to order gameday for today.

Her: "I'm sorry sir, you can order the season plan and get today's games, but we are unable to get the single day working".

"As a service for your customers, why not allow people to order the full season plan and then refun them the difference after the weekend".

"I'm not sure sure, but we won't do that. It's full season or nothing". That's just the way it is."

Well, i'm done w/ twc. So my question is...are people with directv happy with it? Can I get a dvr like I have w/ twc or do i have to buy my own tivo?

directv has dvrs for somewhere in the ballpark of $9 or $10 per month.

directv has their flaws (with all the technology available nowadays, its inexcusable for a tv signal to go out in a thunderstorm -- something that happens from time to time) but theyre still better than cable.

right now theyve got a pretty nice special where you buy the nfl ticket outright and then get a free 4 months of their best channel package to start. after that 4 months, its $99 bucks a month but you can 'downgrade' to a basic package that is equivalent to what youd be getting from time warner. prob sounds complicated but its worth it to look into.

Also the Sports Package for $12.00 is well worth the money. I live in Sioux City, Ia and for some reason none of the stations picked up the Iowa-Montana game. Everyone is pissing and moaning and I am watching it as we speak on Channel 609 ESPNU.

Thanks, that's exactly what I'm gonna get. I can get all the fox sports stations including south which will give me ACC, and espnU which time warner does not have which will get me a lot of carolina bball games.

Thanks for the feedback.

I've had DTV for 7 years now and would never go back. It does go out from time to time but it takes a hurricane like storm and even then it goes out less than our cable used to.

We have the dual tuner HD DVR, I think its a Sony box, and its great.

Yes the sports packages do get expensive, but to watch every NFL game in HD is frankly worth every penny they are charging.

DirectTV has so many extra benefits over cable, that it's not even a comparison. As already mentioned, the sports pkg. and the Sunday Ticket are a must if you're serious about gambling on football.

I have TIVO and would rather part with my garage door opener than my dvr. (and I would never part with the opener). With TIVO you can replay (in slo-motion) all the close plays and see everything for yourself.....even if the network doesn't replay it.

I won't belabor the point. Just get DirectTV and TIVO and you'll never look back.

I must mention....I live in So. Cal. so the weather is never a factor. I can't attest to how it is where storms or rain is present. I've never missed a second of programing. Hell, I drove 2 yrs. once without any windshield wipers.....:142smilie

I feel your pain, I had to move and give up directv because they didn't allow 'attachements' to their building. time warner sucks donkey balls, no nfl network and no ......... hell no nothing. it sucks.

I've been looking through the Directv threads to find some info instead of starting a new thread.

My cable company finally dropped the ball for the last ****ing time.

Question, is Directv really as bad in storms as the cable outift leads you to believe?

They will give me the two boxes if I want one HD box and one DVR box, but they want $6 a month to for the DVR service, can I just have them give me a regular box for free and buy own DVR and use it or would I still have to have some sort of subscription to use it?

You guys that have DTV let me know, cause I may switch this tonight I'm so ****ing mad.

I tried direct tv a few years ago and I lasted about 2 months. It only had to be cloudy to screw up the signal and just forget it if it rained. I'm sure it varies by location, but that shit was beyond annoying.

Hang in there, PF. We're all rooting for ya, bro.

penguinfan, I have had Directv for years now and very seldom lose reception due to bad weather. Sometimes I have had to wipe the dish off in snow or freezing rain but the picture comes right back. As far as your other question, you can buy your own DVR but there still is a monthly charge. I highly recomend Directv and Tivo. I think you will be quite satisfied also. Hope this helps Boilermaker.

if im not mistaken, you are in the pittsburgh area so we are both familiar with fall and winter weather around the great lakes. the only complaint whatsoever that i have with directv is the occasional in-and-out of a signal when a storm passes through. the signal stays strong in most rain, but sometimes a heavy cloud passing through might cause the signal to go out for 5-10 minutes. thankfully its never happened during a game ive been watching. but i imagine ill be pissed if/when it does happen. the people with directv in california or nicer climates will probably say that its perfect and they have no complaints. and they are right. because other than an occasional loss of signal (which seems, at least in my experience, to be once or twice a month for a 5-10 stretch), everything else blows cable out of the water. i still cant understand how they cant avoid weather-related downtime with all the technology out there. but its still better than cable

As most all of you probably already know I also live in So Cal, Orange County to be exact and time ****ing warner just bought out adelphia. Now I have had adelphia for alot of years and the only draw back was no Sunday ticket, but I kept saying it was all right I would go to a bar or my son in laws to watch his DTV if needed.

But now with this horseshit outfit time warner I can't wait to get DTV. I called to get signed up 3 days ago and won't get it installed until Nov 3rd. It seems everyone else in Newport Bch and Huntington Bch that had adelphia or comcast that also got bought out by tw is switching and they are so backlogged it will take 2 weeks, but I can wait to get rid of these assholes.
