I have a nephew in the 101st Airborne. . . and proud of it.
You can sit by your computers and see all the injustices in the world that you want and blow steam. In this country you can do that. This country isn't perfect, but it's a hell of a lot better than a lot of the options.
Pledge allegiance to Iraq and get on your computer over there and bad mouth that government.
First of all, as an Iraqi citizen, you won't own a computer. Secondly, if you bad mouth Saddam, you won't live long enough to say 'computer'.
Some of you need to put down your Timothy McVeigh manifestos and come up for a breath of fresh air.
Since a couple of you...I won't mention any names, like to preach history. Here's a little history for you - Adolf Hitler was a graphic artist who found that he had a calling. A motivator of people. He saw that the people of Germany needed a father figure. He felt that he himself could fill that role. That was 1933. He didn't have a great army. He didn't have a great airforce. He had an idea.
His idea involved the usurping of power. He murdered any opposition. He murdered innocent citizens of his own country. He embarked on world domination. That's when the good old US of A stepped in. That was 1941. It took him 8 years to go from an idea man to a world threat. 3 more years and the loss of millions of lives later and Hitler was a page in the history books. It's now 2003. A man, cut from the same cloth as Hitler, sits upon the world stage. He thinks that nobody cares if he kills a few Kurds. . . his own citizens. He thinks nobody cares if he develops the means to destroy the world. Well, That's where he is wrong. Dead wrong. The U.S. cares. And if more people take a stand against this tyrant, the sooner he becomes a page in the the history books. Maybe not even a page. Maybe a footnote.

BTW, Agent Orange is a defoliant used to do just that. Defoliate (knock the leaves off of) trees in the jungles of Viet Nam, so we could see the Viet Cong's hiding places.

I firmly believe that oil is behind 90% of this issue. We are no more reliant on forgein oil then we were 30 years ago. Some of you may be to young to remember waiting in lines for hours for gas, gas stations being totally shut down, the resulting inflation, etc. I was disappointed in Bush's state of the union that he did not address the need for America to rid itself of this dependancy with more urgency. As long as we depend on the Middle east for oil, we have no choice but to be in the middle of the situation in the middle east. Our economy is based on cheap oil to survivie. Our public transporation in this counrty is almost non-existent. We have been raised to beleive it is our right to buy the biggest gas guzzler we want and hop in it to drive anywhere we want at anytime. What we can do as individual Americans is look at ourselves and ask what can we do to lessen our reliance on forgein oil. Instead of buying that huge SUV or 4x4 because you look cool driving it down to the beach, buy something that is fuel efficient. make the sacrafice. Make your next car purchase the hybrid electric/gas model instead of the cadallic.
I beleive that our President is a decent and moral man as are a majority of american people. We feel for the innocent citizens of countries like Iraq, N. Korea, saudi Arabia, ect.. who are governed by brutal dictorships. Saddam record of human rights is obviously unimaginable to those in this country. We do not want to be the world police because of some need to exercise our power but because we want to ease the suffering of these people. That is not a bad thing.
I think the nations surrounding Iraq are happy with Hussein and would like to see him gone but they are not going to be the ones who do it because it would cast a shadow on them. Iraq is one of many nations that are void of human rights and run by the ruthless. If they go after Iraq, what does it say for their chance of survival post war?
