ive always been on the fence on this topic BUT it is worth noting that the yankees deserve a ton of credit for investing money in the RIGHT players.

for example:

mets sign an over-the-hill glavine to a big contract
yanks sign an "in-his-prime" mussina to a big contract

mets sign free swinging, high homer ,but low avg. guys like mo vaugh, jeromy burnitz, and tony clark

yankees sign a stud like giambi

the yanks do deserve credit for solid track record in free agency

Grizape is a frustrated Met fan. The Mets spend too. He so conveniently forgot to mention where they fall on the payroll scale.
But what kind of team do the Mets put on the field? LMAO.

The Mets play in the SAME MARKET the Yankees do. So why do the Mets suck? Because they don't have a clue who to acquire, they never did and they never will. Yankee fans don't hate the Mets. Yankee fans hate Met fans because THEY are the ones who just dont get it. The Mets are a spending team. They just spend it on burned out crap. Always have, always will. You talk to a Met fan in New York, they talk about the 69 Mets, the 73 Mets, the 86 Mets. They never talk about the present Mets. They spew the same ignorant garbage every spring about how great the Mets are going to do. As soon as June comes and the Mets are out of the pennant race, the Yankee free agent talk surfaces. Mind you, this happens EVERY year.

Your exactly right gman and zoomer, I am a frustrated Mets fan but that problem has been corrected (no more Steve Phillips) and things will start turning around.

As usual though, Yankee fans have turned this little debate into a Mets/Yanks issue when the original statement by WCG was as follows.....
I am not bashing the yanks, but being on the topic the reason why everyone bashes the yanks is they buy their team. It is that simple. Put a salary cap in baseball and they would be just an average team if that.......

I think that statement is pretty clear and has nothing to do with Mets vs Yanks and who is better at free agency. Bottom line, Yanks every year get whoever they please because they are the 1 team that can do so (money wise). Is it cheating? NO Should they stop doing it? NO All we are saying is that they are at an unfair advantage because of the money they bring in. But if there was a salary cap, this would not be the case and they would not be winning World Series year after year!!
