Do you guys think that stadiums and arenas should insulate athletics from criminal charges? I understand if what happens in the trenches we?re to happen in the streets it would be against the law, but if ole boy had hit Rudolph with the crown of that helmet, it would have been a bad deal. I know hockey players have faced criminal charges for acts on the ice, does last night not rise to that level ?

Garrett is very fortunate that he didn't connect perfectly with the helmet. He could have caused permanent brain damage and spent a significant amount of time in prison. As it is, I'm surprised that criminal charges are not being considered.

No discipline for Rudolph yet?

No discipline for Rudolph yet?

I realize what Garrett did was stupid and wrong. But I also wonder if he would have even pulled off Rudolph's helmet had Rudolph not pulled on his first?

Deadly weapon is bit much
Hope Steelers realize this kid not the future. After getting his button pushed a month ago by Thomas, he doesn?t make good decisions.
Charge the guy who took his helmet so he can get smacked with it. What?s he going to do 3rd and 10 w/ :29 to go, blitz coming off edge.
Why go after Garrett? Stupid

The NFL said in a statement today that Garrett has been suspended without pay indefinitely at a minimum for remainder of the regular season and postseason. The league said he violated its unnecessary roughness and unsportsmanlike conduct rules as well as fighting and removing the helmet of an opponent and using the helmet as a weapon.

while i can't stand roger goodell and the nfl organization, i fully support the sanctions thus far imposed on garrett. however, from a criminal law perspective, i would be compelled to point out that it's unclear if garrett was the original aggressor. if he wasn't, then he was entitled to use reasonable force in self defense. as i recall, at the moment he swung the helmet he was being bum rushed by two fair sized grown men who appeared intent on doing him bodily harm. i doubt swinging a football helmet would be deemed an excessive escalation of force if he was legally cloaked with the right of self defense. even if he wasn't, it would be a problematic, costly and very public prosecution for a district attorney, who is an elected public official. i do't see that happening.

I guess a lawyer could contend that he was trying to give the guy his helmet back.

Garrett hitting him the head with the helmet is inexcusable and a suspension of the rest of the year without pay is justified.

Why is no one talking about RULDOPH trying to rip GARRETT's helmet off? His hands were inside the helmet watch the footage.

Pouncey is an absolute BITCH and should have also been suspended for the rest of the season without pay.

So the NFL sends the message it's ok to retaliate and only get three games? Garrett is a beast and you saw he gave up when forced to the ground. Yet Pouncey is punching him and then KICKING HIM IN THE HEAD? Three games? That's some serious bullshit.

^ pounceys a jerk for sticking up for his teammates , would never want someone like
Him on my team. Also are you comparing Garrett hitting Rudolph in the head full force with a helmet to pouncey kicking a guy in head with a Helmet on ? Just making sure I read that correctly

:142smilie Steelers fan. What did Pouncey accomplish by punching and kicking Garrett when he was on the ground and had given up? Zero nada nothing but retaliation. If you call that sticking up for his teammate well then you just proved my point. Pouncey is still a bitch.

You?re right, pouncey should have immediately went to his sideline and sat down and folded his arms and relaxed and ran away from his teammate getting smashed with a helmet which would have showed bravado, instead he tried to stick up for a teammate by being a bitch which is bullshit. completely agree.

They had restrained him and the incident was over. That's called protecting your teammate. :nono:

If someone takes a player's helmet and tries to kill him with it, the entire team should have piled on that fucker.

Then, the NFL should publicly state, "he got what was coming to him".

Anyone who has ever had a friend in their life, or understood loyalty, would know that.
