Like everyone else, I have read that the gas prices are do to anything from OPEC controlling prices to Speculators to the ever popular supply and demand.
My question...what can we do to get out from under the control other nations have on us when it comes to energy. I hear all sorts of bit*&&*ing but no solutions.
I think we need the train system back and MAKE MANDATORY MILAGE REQUIERMENTS for vehicles within FIVE years screw this 20 yr crap. Last, make the oil companies prove that as they have told Congress, that the massive profits are actually being spent on research not lining someones pocket. JMHO

Isn't that just plain crazy. There are actually companies out there that are trying to make money and a return for their shareholders.:scared

The most populated country in the world is becoming more industrialized/civilized every day. That is driving the demand sky high while OPEC keeps their supply the same. Don't blame OPEC, they are rolling along doing what they've always done. Fact is, we have oil available to us that we aren't tapping into. If we tapped into it and mixed it into our refineries, demand for OPEC oil would be decreased and the price would drop. The thing I can't understand is how we can turn corn into anything we want, put a man on the moon, and put computers in everything, but we can't power a car more affordably than we can on gasoline. My opinoion: Big oil is colluding with our government to prevent operations that would threaten their industry.
