Bad........I pretty much did the same thing. I made do-nuts at a bakery and worked a milk delivery truck, for 5 cents over minimum. As a teen those 5 cent Root Beers at A-W were great, weren't they? Woolworth's had nickel roots, also.
But, I really hated Old Mil tho, even tho it was cheap. I tried to save up for some Miller anyway ..and illegally guzzled it along with a 75 cent pizza from a place called O'scuggnizzo's Pizzeria.
Gas was probably 4-5 cents chaeper for you in Texas at that time than I was paying in NY.

Very interesting how far your money went in the 60's and 70's.
I remember that 22 cents a gallon in 58/59/60. Wow went way up in early 60's to 25/27 cents. And those hot dogs for 15 cents. Root beer for a dime.
Why now days does gas go up 5 or 6 cents a pop. But comes back down 1 to 3 cents at a time. And no one seems to have gas wars like they did 30/40 years ago. They all sleep in same bed now.
