Munson,

Do you honestly think Kerry could, or even would buck big oil?

Since 1972 we have had over 30 years to do something about this. We been through what 8/9 Presidents. Everyone could see this coming. There have been so many tries at new fuel ideas and better transportation systems. They always get under funded or just placed in a closet. Big Oil has won this battle and still is trying to. The auto industry always fights off the gas per mile improvement. I remember the first one. They were asked to improve from 14 miles to the gallon to 17. Dame near went wild about how they never could do it. They ofcourse did. Then they were asked for 20 miles to the gallon and again. Went nuts. But they did. Now if they just go to 22/23 gallons to the mile. We can save all the fuel we would get from drilling in Alaska. Once again they say how do we do it. I dont know but the big three better start or the Japanies will just sell more cars. The US guys can do it. But maybe there in bed with Oil. It is a dam shame 30 years really do something. I wonder where we would be if we had just borrowed alittle of that money from the shuttle program to come up with ideas here on earth. Mind you I did not say cancel the shuttle program. Just a few bucks where we need it.

You are very correct about us having 30 years to figure out how to avoid little patches of sand having us by the nards.

The rest of your statement is small potatoes in my mind. We should be well beyond oil period, or extremely less reliant on it.

Fuel standards and who's behind the conspiracy shouldn't be the focus. If it was in big oil's financial interest, they would have a better mouse trap. There is no reason for them to plan any other future policy.

At the end of the day, the desert dwellers, whatever their beliefs, will feel vindicated/justified/powerful by our need for them.

I don't think governments should be dictating business policy. At the same time, I don't have an answer to solve this myself. With the technology of the shuttle etc, we should be able to avoid these problems.

The whole thing can be depressing.

This is the corrupt governments fault for letting the oil companies keep buying each other out.

There is no lack of oil, the prob is the refinieries are deliberately letting the supply dry up and increase the margin instead of volume.

The said on the news that several states down south can't even get the gas delivered fast enuff to the stations and the stations are going dry. They are saying the worse hit will be florida and california saying it should hit around $3 a gallon in florida because of lack of supply.

The government could fix this but they won't because they have been all paid off, both sides republicans and democrats.

I work w/bp oil and they were a big contributor to bush election.

They also got theirselves in big time trouble couple years back, cause they own a majority of the oil wells in alaska and all of that oil is suppose to go to california, guess what they got caught shippng it to japan, big surprise..

countinguy,

There is much truth in what you say. I'm familiar with that BP outfit myself...those slick bastards actually screwed us out of a large portion of our retirement before they sold us to the equally sinister BLACKSTONE GROUP. ( I can actually see why jokers become terrorists).
I remember back in the 70's when I first started in oil refining (the so called gasoline shortage). The oil companies raked in so much loot during that time that the govt finally told them that either they give the workers a cut, or they'd be hit with a huge windfall profits tax. I was just a young rookie then, not much time with the company, and they cut me a 30k check (which was huge back in those days).
In my opinion most Americans would be shocked at who the REAL terrorist are. I'm not just speaking of some disgruntled muslim extremists either... I think those bastards are as manipulated as the American public is. But hey...that's our system. All one can do is see through the BS and make the most of it.

CG and Tony TT:

great points, fellas....unfortunately....most can't or refuse to see past their own democratic/republican loyalties....and acknowledge that regardless of who is in "power"....the country is in fact run by the triumvirate that is the pentagon, military and petro-chemical companies!!!

Agree w/u fully TT

And Cherry u are right the US is run by 2 organizations and it isn't the republicans or democrats, so don't even wanna go there.

US IS RUN BY OIL AND DRUG Companies Period..

Don't tell me it is not true w/the drug companies also that is why prescriptions are about 50 percent higher than going across the border to canada for the same damn thing. WHAT"S UP W/THAT????????? Payola big time!!!

I am very surprised the 2 big companies didn't put their heads together and have gas stations w/drive thru pharmacys w/them, seems like that would be the ultimate us business combo to me.

TonyTT,

I'd be interested to hear what you know about Blackstone.

I once worked for a Railroad which was one of their holdings.

S. CAL.
I read that the refineries have to change there formulas for the seasons and that is why the prices always change during the seasonal changes. i don't know how accurate that is but whatever the reason it still blows. i live in s. cal. and the price for reg unleaded is over $2.00 a gallon, i just made a trip to Texas and saw that the price for the same petrol is around $ 1.50.
that is complete b.s.
i wonder if the difference is all the taxes they add for living in almost a socialist state, that socialist state being California.

Buddy,

Blackstone is a private investment firm with links to the Kissinger Association. It was formed in 85 by Stephen Schwarzman and PETE PETERSON himself. PETERSON is a shaker and mover in major financial markets and aslo a strong influence in the United States' international affairs. He's Chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of NY and also as Chairman of the Board of the CFR, he's probably the number two man in the CFR. Schwarzman is also a CFR member.
Blackstone has major realestate holdings in Boston..NY...SF
.. and Washington DC. Their restructuring arm also handled,
XEROX...ENRON...and GLOBAL CROSSING. They are in partnership
in different endevors with AT&T...AOL TIME WARNER, UNION CARBIDE, USX, VIVIDIAN...BP AMACO...ARTHUR ANDERSON and
others.
Their major holdings include PREMCOR rifining group...American
Axle...and Universal Studios is Fla. They also own the famous Savoy Group of hotels in London.
As a side note I think I recently read where Kerry's 04 campaign organizer ( Roger Altman) was vice chairman of Blackstone from 87-92.
