Now... why do you think spot prices are increasing? Do you think its just normal supply and demand... or do you think its because hedge fund managers are locking in their profits from the future market, you know, creating a *hedge*.

A barrel of oil contains as much as $10-15 in speculative price from hedge funds. Why? Because the going on 5 years of ultra low interest rates has forced them to stick their idle cash in places that are highly liquid (like the oil/gas futures market). Use the spot price to hedge a profit. Hedgies will take long positions aimed at continued gains and use the spot market to hedge their return.

But, yea, I forgot, since last year, myself and everyone is the country has doubled the number of miles they are driving and everyone lowered their thermostats to 65 in the summer.

It's called bend over gang and drop your pants. Lets see what was it just before election last year. Around 1.89. You got to wonder.

The fun will really start when Bush blockades the Iranian ports so no ships can leave the harbors. Roosevelt did it in 1940 and caused the US entry into WW11. Only, this time China & Russia will have somethin to say about it.
$2.52-2.79 in San Diego Co.

It's well documented that I don't drive much, but I did notice a few weeks ago that gas prices had quietly crept back up into extremely high territory. I was wondering when this would come back up here.

My next car will be at least partially not dependent on gas.
