Hope any closted MJ'ers had a nice "gay pride" weekend (if it was this weekend in your area).

I've never officially met anyone from here, but I think I did run into some MJ'ers today:

I am just wondering when we get our "straight pride" weekend...

No offense, but I think these designated weekends or days are crap. Valentine's Day is a prime example. Do we really need a day to tell people we love them? And gays need a weekend to say how proud they are? Be proud of who you are all the time, and give love to those you care about all the time...just my opinion. Not trying to dumb it down if it was important for you, but I get tired of these contrived "holidays".

No offense taken. I don't understand "pride" in general. Irish pride, gay pride, Black pride. It's like being proud of something you didn't work at, earn, or even have any decision in.

What it really should be called is "Gay Party" "Irish Party (St Patricks Day), etc.

It's basically a gay Mardi Gras. It's pretty commercial at this point. How many "Delta Airlines" or "Altoid" floats does one really need to see?

Now, that being said, it's really good for our city in terms of tourist $$$'s. Draws 500,000 people.

And in the early days, it was a pretty important and revolutionary step in terms of showing unity and strength. Events like this were an effective tool at getting some rights and fair treatment. It served as a reminder to the rest of the community that you probably know and perhaps care about or respect some gay people, without realizing it.

Whether or not you agree with things like adoption, visiting a sick partner in the hospital, not getting arrested for hanging out at a gay bar. (I see both sides of adoption/marriage etc).

Changes to those things may never have happened with out the gay pride/rights movement in the 60's/70's.

So in that sense, it's important.

This brings up an interesting topic. I wonder if any of the regular posters around here are gay (not that theres anything wrong with that). Most of the gay men that I know are not big sports betters. Actually, most of the gay men that I know aren't that into sports at all.

Alright, I'd like to see any gay people identify themselves. I will protect you from any anticipated ridicule from troglodykes (pun intended) like Wayne, Weasel, Intense Operator, Six Five etc.

Out of the closet. Show yourselves.

Too funny. :142smilie

There is a rule in "outting" people in politics, that you only out people who are privately gay, and have publicly anti-gay policies.

I can guaratnee there are a few gay posters here. I know of two, for sure. Although I wouldn't consider them in the "inner circle" of MJers

Been in publishing for 15+ years and on two different occasions, the annual library convention was in San Fran the same weekend as the Gay Pride parade. Felk is right, this is the most AMAZING thing you have ever seen and was even more especially funny mixed in with librarians. It is unbelievable to see all the major corporations that participate in the parade.

Being an old fashioned boy from Alabama, we did not see a lot this kinda going ons from where I am from:scared :nono:

The gay community (both flavors) have BIG $$. They are a power block of their own and will always get a lot of attention like seniors, teenagers and/or thieving lawyers.

Why do you think lawyers support gay marriage? They can smell the money they will make from gay divorces.

I didn't say that.

Lawyers may support gays because they are horny bastards and will get it any way they can. Seeing as how they are so roundly hated in the straight community well ............... people can get use to anything.

just a theory now that you asked
