Bought the hook... Phily -5 (-120) 5 units

Favre is my favourite QB but he throws them up and hopes god controls them sometimes.. He will be picked off many times during that game. Phily has all their CBs and safetys back who really complete their teams defensive ability. Whether or not Phily can stop Green with the running game or not, I think Phily will see what happened last game when Seattle got dismantled by the Greens running game and will be prepared for it..

Phily will roll.......... I think a DD win happen but I bought the hook just in case...

Havent thought much about the other games but I think all the roadies will win except St Louis who will win and SHOULD cover the 7..

Good Luck..

I posted something yesterday on this game ("GB / Philly line" it is called, or something like that ... the thread may be down on Page 2 now...anyways...). I too felt VERY strongly about Philly in the upcoming round... at the time the line came out it was -3?! Got some advice about Philly's run D being seriously vulnerable. Still have to examine that but so far, on the surface, I am with you.... I feel this is an excellent spot for the Eagles.

Westbrook - Season-ending surgery

Westbrook - Season-ending surgery

by Ted Carlson - Associate Editor, Fanball.com
Monday, January 5, 2004

Running back Brian Westbrook will undergo season-ending surgery on Tuesday to repair his torn left triceps' muscle, PhiladelphiaEagles.com reported. Dr. James Andrews, who is based in Birmingham, Alabama, will perform the operation. Westbrook suffered the injury in the Eagles' final regular season game and received three different opinions before making his decision.

"I feel bad for Brian. He's worked so hard all season to have a chance to play in the playoffs," head coach Andy Reid said. "We are very lucky to have a group of good running backs and returners that will do a nice job."

Widely lauded as the Eagles? team MVP, Westbrook finished the season with 613 rushing yards, seven rushing touchdowns, 332 receiving yards, four receiving touchdowns, and two return touchdowns.

Throughout the season, Westbrook split running back repetitions with Correll Buckhalter and Duce Staley, forming one of the NFL?s most successful backfields. With Westbrook now out, Buckhalter and Staley will have to pick up the slack. Rookie running back Reno Mahe will return punts in Westbrook?s place.

The Eagles host the Packers on Sunday in the last game of the Divisional Playoffs, and fantasy owners looking to capitalize on the Eagles? successful running game should feel good about using either Buckhalter or Staley.

In week eight of this season, Westbrook severely sprained his left ankle. He missed much of that contest against the Jets, did not play in the week nine battle in Atlanta, and was limited in week 10 at Green Bay. Over that three-game span, Buckhalter flourished, rushing 47 times for 215 yards and two scores. Meanwhile, Staley carried the ball 22 times for 114 yards and one touchdown. Staley also caught six passes for 83 yards.

With Westbrook out in week nine, quarterback Donovan McNabb passed for 312 yards and one touchdown. It was only one of two games this season that McNabb threw for over 300 yards, and with Westbrook sidelined again, the Eagles? offense may now fall more heavily on Donovan?s shoulders.

Favre may not be needed in this game much. I see Packers running game with a repeat of the first meeting. They will slam it down Philly's throats on the ground. I am all over taking the points. And if Brett is needed, he has been on fire last quarter of the season.

Philly has a very poor run defense, and GB has the best offensive line in football and one of the top 3 running backs. I think Philly will focus on stopping the run leaving them very vulnerable on the playaction passes. I see Favre and Walker having a big day. If Philly stacks the line with 8 or 9 in the box their DB's will be forced into single coverage and Walker is a very big WR with good hands and him and Favre will exploit that single coverage.

Philly's offense is in trouble too. Without Westbrook in the backfield they will be pretty much one-demensional. This will hurt their offense and allow GB's defense to predict Philly's offense more than they did in the first matchup.

Do not post often but have had a good handle on the playoffs so far. Looking to take the points.
GB defense is better than last game and everyone pretty much healthy. Just do not see a Phil win by a touchdown.

Local book here had the Sea/GB game at 8-. Could not believe all the action on the pack. Hope I can get a good number aginst Phil.

chuck, I love the Eagles myself and have put much money on them winning to NFC and the Super Bowl, but with all of this destiny stuff going on around Favre and his dad, and the cardinals and so one, I may tease the packers up or the eagles down --depending on the way I feel come the weekend.

IMO I think the eagles will do it but I don't want to press my luck with a country boy quarterback who lost his father and has dedicated, along with the whole team, this season to his father.

Also, IMO, Eagles will do just enough to win!!!

why in the world would you buy a half to 5??? I can understand buying to 3 or maybe 7, but 5??? Regardless, onto the game...Packers run run run against eagles this week...farve does get into trouble with forces but NOT when running game established...look for green to open up things early, and farve to throw some very timely passes...westbrook injury a huge blow to eagles as well...eagles got gift W in gb earlier during rain when ahman could not hold onto the ball...green protects the ball and GB keeps it close...

Lots of good and interesting points.. BUT..

Lots of good and interesting points.. BUT..

ezpickin - .. Bought the .5 point for 10% and really did it to get it to an even number.. I do undersand your point but its done..

Fabulous - you need to lay off the crank man. GB does NOT have the best offensive line in football, and far from it. Westbrook is NOT the only running back the Eagles got, even here of DUCE STALEY? Also the phily CB and SS are the best in the business and will take the 1-1 coverage with Dankins taking on GBs best WR which IMO is not Walker!

Lots of interesting facts.. here are some more.. Point to consider at least..

Last time the Pack played Phily, Green ran for over 190 yards in that game.. which is what GB has to do if they intend to win the game. I dont think Green will be shut down by any means but will have to use Green to keep Macnabb off the field as much as possible.
GB also has very poor stats on Turf and thats whats in Phily. Home field is also important in this position. Personally, I think GB just bairly got by Seattle who is 1/2 the team Phily is on offense and defense.
GB defense is nothing to brag about. They have issues stopping the run and Duce and Mcnabb running will get the important first downs. Phily has to come out strong and avoid going down in the 1st quarter. I think may start off better because of Green but other than that Phily will win this game. Ball control is the important factor in this game.
Coaching.. Reid is the better coach who can make the different at half time. Phily lost to Tampa last year at home, they wont make it happen again... Look at what Indy did!

Also like the under 42 right now. Ball control will be the game and lots of runs and long drives will happen... But, I dont see Phily losing this game unless then come out asleep!

I love Favre but his unpredictable throw it in the air and see what happens like he did vs Seattle at least 2-3 times will not work with Phily. I see Favre and >2 INTs in his future..

Phily will roll.. Buy it down rather than buy it up for Favre and company.... but, thats my opinion!

Good luck......... if you choose Phily -5 or more of course :)

Dude, the Birds play on grass. The Vet turf has long been retired.

P.S. If you want to get technical, the Linc has a grass/turf blend with the turf blades sewn into the ground. But it most definitely should not be considered turf.

P.S.S. Still think the Birds get in done on Sunday. Favre is due for about 3 picks.

Philly won the first game by 3 scoring with 23 seconds left in game. Not sure what that tells us this late in year. I know one thing forsure Philly is rested and that is huge this time of year. Im a Packer backer and want the win so bad. But I just dont know whats left in the tank after the Seattle game. Believe me they were ski hi to beat there old coach and Seattle Sunday. And even then some of the wareing down started to show. Packs been in 4 playoff games in a row just to stay a live. Man that's hard to keep up.

I have been going to Packer home games for 28 years and have seen every single Favre start at home... He has in the past, but Sunday, he did not throw up a single pass against Seattle without knowing where it was going. With that cold and that wind, it was the best game I have seen him play yet, conditions included. Oakland game was good, but in that game he did chuck it up there three times, just that his receivers made the play...

And right now, Walker IS the best receiver on the team in terms of big play ability. He is quickly developing into a stud the second half of the season. In the last 8 games he has 22 catches for 511 yards (That is an amazing 23.2 yds per) and five scores. Not too shabby.

I think it is going to be a great game. Philly may win, but Packers dominated them for 3.5 quarters, albeit it was at home.

fab,

in your capping don't put too much emphasis on westbrook being out. staley and buckhalter can get the job done, as they have all season. westbrook is a nice weapon and i wish he was in there, but being w/o him does not make the eagles one dimensional.

good luck to you.

Got to agree with you not one dimensional.

Westbrook is a special player. Phillys are a much better team with him as I am sure everyone will agree.

I don't trust Deuce Staley and Burk to carry the day.

Not sure yet if Packers can exploit them by stopping the run.

This is a tough game to call. I think this game may be too close for me to call.

So if I had to I would take the points.

Alot of pressure on the Eagles. If they lose and are knocked out by the Pack that will be a huge set back for the Eagles team.

Eagles should dominate but I am thinking its a close game.

Most all players healthy on Eagles so I guess we will see.

Not going to get into a tiff for something so small but it definately is not natural grass which supports my statement that Favre does not do well on turf.. :)

Quote "In February, 1995, the field at the Vet was replaced with a new synthetic turf called AstroTurf-8. This new state-of-the-art surface features a vertical drainage system whereby water will drain through holes in the turf, its padding, and the stone and earth sub-base. "

Good luck to you and phily backers :)

Regarding the Pack and Eagles

Regarding the Pack and Eagles

Fact since the Packers acquired Grady Jackson and Larry Smith the Packers have only allowed 3.6 yards per rushing attempt. The comparison about the Seahawks being half the team the Eagles are is ridiculous as the Seahawks could have very well been 12-4 except for 2 bad calls that the NFL admitted that the Zebra's had made mistakes on. The offensive talent of the Seahawks is much better than the Eagles. As far as the Packers having the best offensive line that is not true. There are a few teams with better offensive lines like the Chiefs, Seahawks, Bronco's and the Ravens. Packers weakness is their poor play from the safety position in Marcus Anderson and their linebacking corps is below average. You cannot compare how the teams played last time as the Eagles played without Vincent and Dawkins. Another factor is Favre is healthy right now as the thumb is no longer a factor. As far as his interceptions he usually gets his in bunches and those usually come when his team is behind. As far as last game I don't see where he threw any ball up for grabs. That was an outstanding performance by Favre and Hasselback as the winds were gusting up to 30 mph.
As far as Philly Mc Nabb is the most underrated QB there is as their starting wide receivers are terrible. They get no separation at all. The offensive line is good and the running backs are very good. The problem with losing Westbrook is that he does so much for them on the special teams. The corners and safeties will give Favre fits but the problem is that through injuries the defensive line has been run on. The Eagles have a huge advantage of the bye this past week as they will be well rested. In years past the Packers on the road was a huge go against but not this year as they have won at Tampa and Minnesota. This game is going to be to close to call and I will be looking at the points. Good luck to everyone on their plays.

Wasn't trying to start a tiff with you chuckdman. There are enough of those around here these days for everyone. Just trying to add input to the capping discussion.

While they did have turf at the Vet, they don't play at the Vet anymore. Just opened up Lincoln Financial Field this year which does have grass.

Here is a link for the grass at the Linc.
