I saw what I expected from both of these pretenders. I would just as soon see them cancel the remaining debates between these incompetents unless we are guaranteed that someone unbiased asks them both the questions that need to be asked to find out if either of them can lead us out of the forest. i don't expect that will happen.

I'll be honest,if the the election was to be based on tonights debate kerry would win.. but lets cut the chit and get to the corn.. talking and doing is 2 totally different things.. and bush is in the middle of DOING and LEADING this country.. this debate was held at a time where things are tuff right now in a war that alot of people are against AND not being patiant on.. going in nobody really knew where exactly kerry stood and his acting was surprisingly pretty good.. bush was what he has been saying all along.. staying on the offensive against terrorism.. and to me that is the most important issue..

Consider the substance, not the delivery. Bullshit walks ya know. :nono:

Let's just say after hearing that garbage that Kerry spewed out I think he would be a PERFECT replacement for Koffi Annan!!! ...damn a perfect fit for the U.N. leader!!! Someone so out of touch with reality and so "sensitive" on terror!
We all know Kerry is a way better debater. He's been doing it for 25 years. His job was to come out and throw all kinds of shit at the president, and Bush was to play defense. That is the disadvantage I saw tonight.
Kerry appeared confident, but his rantings were overly rehearsed and he actually contradicted himself many times. (I can get into that if anyone wants to talk about it, I'd be EAGER) He sounded like a typical politician in my opinion. ALL TALK

... I thought it was BS when Kerry said that our military decisions "should pass the global test"
FAWWWWK THAT... I don't want a president who needs to check with France and Germany before they move the chess pieces. Sorry, maybe I'm just a hardcore. I just don't want to have to put up with that shit. I think a lot of Americans feel the same way.

Bush is a terrible speaker, I will be the first to say, but I dont need no fawking speaker. I do not need a talker....I need a doer. Bush is stronger on terror... He walks the walk. Kerry sent so many mixed messages it was almost pathetic. I guess we will get more into this later....

The most overwhelming advantage that Kerry had tonight was hindsight. "Knowing what we know now" huh?

Charlie, your rehabilitation seems to be complete. God help any Liberal Felons who start up w/you. Glad you've learned that "violence is obscene"- per John Lennon, and not always the answer. And no more Squeaky Fromme types - O.K?
Hope the aftershocks haven't been too severe.

I felt Bush was strong early but Kerry finished up better. I don't know why Bush let Kerry off so easy on the 87 billion for our troops Kerry voted against. Kerry turned it into Bush having made the bigger mistake by going to war. NO, reaffirm why we went and slam him on not supporting our troops over there now. Why did you vote against helping our troops in Iraq Mr. Kerry? Why is it you don't want them to have extra shielding on their transport vehicles or extra armor gear that may save some lives. Is it you are hoping for more deaths so the numbers are bigger and may land you some extra votes. Does he actually think you can get rid of all nuclear proliferation stuffs in four years. That is just totally unrealistic based on the current status of global policy. You think Vlad P in Russia is going to say, yeah, sure John, I'll do it right away. Kerry has no concept on foreign policy. He talks about getting other countries involved but then wants bilateral talks with N Korea which Bush is absolutely right on that China would bug out talks if that were to take place, thus causing exactly the opposite to happen what Kerry says he will do. Kerry came across better in the debate, but for the educated person, I think you could see through his arguments, at least I hope.

Went about as I expected--Was hoping for knock out punch that never occured. From debating skills no question Kerry the best--think Bush expressons worst part of his delivery but believe he got point across of Kerry's indecisiveness and if I was him would have added Kerry's stance not only undermines the troops and Iraqi's but aids and abett the terrorist. In reading todays papers the the biggest supporters of Kerry's debate was Algezzeera followed closely by it's affiliate New York times.
----maybe more important on character issue was not was was said but how each spent their time prior to election. One was at some sites in Fla looking at hurricane damage was reported getting a hair job and manicure. Do I need to point out whom did which? Didn't think so.

Thought this was interesting from AP on facts in debate considering they are quite biased for most part.

Debate Fact Check

Thursday, September 30, 2004

WASHINGTON ? President Bush spoke as if Al Qaeda (search) leaves senior positions vacant when its top operatives are taken down, boasting in his debate with John Kerry that three-quarters of the terrorist network's leaders are gone. His Democratic opponent spoke as if only the rich got a tax cut under Bush, when in fact taxpayers in all income groups did.

Self-serving oversimplifications marked the first presidential debate as Bush and Kerry made their case on Iraq and the broad canvas of foreign policy.

Bush twice suggested Al Qaeda is a vastly diminished force at the top, saying at one point that "75 percent of known Al Qaeda leaders have been brought to justice," and at another, Usama bin Laden (search) is "isolated ? 75 percent of his people have been brought to justice."

But Al Qaeda is still considered a mortal danger in part because it refills its ranks and leadership. The president was actually referring to deaths or arrests of operatives who powered Al Qaeda when it mounted the Sept. 11 attacks, not those behind the organization today.

Earlier this year, the CIA (search) estimated two-thirds of those leaders were gone. Bush upped the proportion to three-quarters in his national convention speech in August, based on intelligence findings that were not publicly detailed.

Bush also mischaracterized Kerry's position on withdrawing troops from Iraq: "My opponent at one time said, 'Well, get me elected, I'll have them out of there in six months.' "

In fact, Kerry said he would hope to begin a withdrawal in six months, not complete it. His aim would be to finish the withdrawal in four years if conditions allow.

Kerry stretched in accusing Bush of spending too little on homeland security and too much in giving tax cuts to the rich. "This president thought it was more important to give the wealthiest people in America a tax cut rather than invest in homeland security," he said. "And long before President Bush and I get a tax cut ? and that's who gets it ? long before we do, I'm going to invest in homeland security."

Bush's tax cuts were across the board, not just for rich people like Kerry and himself.

Kerry, as he often does, said the United States has spent $200 billion on the Iraq war.

An analysis by FactCheck.org at the Annenberg School for Communication found that the true cost to be under $120 billion so far and that Kerry reaches his figure by counting money scheduled to be spent next year, money that hasn't been requested yet and money for Afghanistan operations and U.S. cities.

The Democrat apparently misspoke when painting a dark picture of the chaos in Iraq today. He said of Iraq, "we got weapons of mass destruction crossing the border every single day, and they're blowing people up."

He apparently meant terrorists, not weapons of mass destruction, were crossing the border.

He also misspoke when he referred to looking at KGB records in Treblinka Square in a visit to Russia. Treblinka was a Nazi death camp. He meant Lubyanka Square.

Kerry called Bush on another statement ? the president's assertion in reference to Iraq that "the enemy attacked us ... and I have a solemn duty to protect the American people."

As Kerry pointed out, Saddam Hussein did not attack the United States. And the administration has backed away from earlier claims of a direct link between bin Laden and Saddam.

Bush blasted Kerry for calling the Iraq invasion the wrong war at the wrong time and said foreign leaders would never follow a president who talked that way. But major U.S. allies opposed the war from before the start.

Kerry may have overstepped in accusing Bush, in essence, of letting bin Laden get away.

"Unfortunately, he escaped in the mountains of Tora Bora," he said. "We had him surrounded. But we didn't use American forces, the best trained in the world, to go kill him. The president relied on Afghan warlords and he outsourced that job too."

There has been no definitive conclusion bin Laden was in the caves of Tora Bora in December 2001, when U.S. and Afghan troops surrounded the complex and U.S. warplanes blanketed the area with bombs. But U.S. military and intelligence officials believe he probably was. And U.S. forces did largely rely on Afghan forces on the ground to go after him.

I am afraid the young(21-30) will be on Kerry's side after last night. My vote will be for President Bush. Why the young? They are swayed by looks, and smooth talking salesmen. I can now understand how Kerry could marry into money.

Considering BOTH substance and style...Kerry annihilated W. Just repeating "It's hard work" over and over and "mixed messages" isn't going to cut it.

That strategy failed miserably last night as all reasoning human life forms could clearly see. Kerry was obviously more Presidential in bearing while W slumped over the podium. The sad part is that this was supposed to be W's area of strength. All he said basically was "I know what needs to be done - just trust me".

Bottom line: By my conservative estimate Kerry clearly gained at least 3% last night and weakened another 4-7% that are now ripe for the fall awaiting the next debate.

Let's get to domestic issues and watch Bush try to explain how he let our jobs leave, amassed a record deficit, took a 30 year step backwards in environmental protection, and essentially doesn't have a concept of the dollar.

Bush should have won last night - Kerry can't offer much new on Iraq. Bush lost because he's basically stupid and was exposed. On domestic issues, he'll be knocked to the floor. I just hope we can finally get to some of those issues.

Look at Bush from 4 years ago. Look at him last night. Good reason why we may need just one term for anybody. He's shot.
I thought I was listening to a record skipping over and over the same spot. This was his best issue his P R group said. If that's true he's going to sound way behind next week. It's like things move to fast for him.
