PREVIEW

Having scheduled four top 25 teams in its first eight games to date, the 2015-16 schedule takes a step back upon the onset of exams, which begins Monday against Brown University. The Bears carry none of the pre-game hype that the Syracuse game did, but provide a good test for a Georgetown team looking to build upon recent success. Georgetown looks to avoid complacency as Brown looks for its first win over a Big East opponent not named Providence since the 1993-94 season.

Brown enters the game with a smaller lineup common to Ivy league teams. Only one starter is taller than 6-6.

A three guard lineup will feature Tavon Blackmon, who played at Washington's Gonzaga College HS and who averages 38 percent from three point range. Twin brothers Justin and Jason Massey provide stability in the backcourt and an ability to pick up rebounds when needed, as the two combine for seven rebounds a game. Justin, a transfer from Florida Atlantic, can provide good perimeter defense and is capable of good three point shooting, though his early numbers at Brown are below early expectations.

The Bears will rely on all-Ivy candidate Cedric Kuakumensah to lead the defense. Kuakumensah is approaching the Ivy record for blocked shots and scored 20 points and 15 points in the Bears' win over Bryant, the only common opponent to date with the Georgetown schedule. If the Bears are to contend in this game, it will need a big game from forward Steven Speith, the younger brother of PGA tour pro Jordan Speith. Steven is an excellent free throw shooter and has started 58 games for the Bears over three seasons but will need a big game on rebounding to limit second chance points from the Hoyas.

The first 30 minutes of its game with Syracuse was as good as the Hoyas have played all seasons, and despite a lack of point production from its backcourt it was able to dominate the Orangemen. This game figures to return to scoring in the backcourt from D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera and L.J. peak, with a regular rotation from inside help. Brown does not have the depth to fall behind too far early in the game, so a good start by the Hoyas could prove fatal for any upset hopes by the visiting Bruins.

KEYS TO THE GAME:

Rebounds: Brown is among the bottom 50 nationally in rebounds.

Jessie Govan: Monday's game offers Govan additional time to gain experience prior to Big East play.

J. R. Hobbie: Brown's best outside shooter will be coming off the bench, but a 43% average bears some watching. The Bears average 22 attempts per game.
