I have been watching this spread and when it jumped up from +6 to +7 time to make a move.

Let me tell you this much about this game in Athens this coming Saturday night.

There is no way in holy hell that UGA is going to beat this Alabama team by 10 fawking points.

I don't care if they bring Larry Munson into the locker room at half time and sing the Notre Dame fight song.

I don't care if they wear all black uniforms and so do the fans.

That is not going to help them with this defense Alabama brings to the table. We all saw what happened when South Carolina shut down the UGA running game. Stafford cannot beat a good defense with his arm. At least I have not seen it.

Big time struggle game for UGA.

Are you sure you don't want to buy another point so that you win if Georgia wins by 10 instead of push?

I am wrong at least 45% of the time, but I am thinking Bama is the most overrated top 10 team.

I'm interested to see how sharp UGA is following the trip out west. GL on this play.

thanks Cie

I see Alabama playing a very physical game and UGA not being able to hold up. UGA does not like smash nose football. They can play it, but its not their game. They like the finesse game. And that is not what Alabama will bring with them.

I am hoping UGA wins, but I doubt they can pull ahead and hold a lead very long.

Should be a great game.

You said "There is no way in holy hell that UGA is going to beat this Alabama team by 10 fawking points. "

Then why buy to 10 to cover something that there's "no way in holy hell" of a happening

Unless. . . . you believe there is a holy hell

you need to eat at the Y more Bobby.

Like I said if you dont like my play then go make your own losing wagers.

You seem to have a easy time picking losers.

Did you ever take Statistics in college ?

Winning is just not that complicated if you think about it.

SMITH HONORED: Alabama junior left tackle Andre Smith was named the Southeastern Conference offensive linemen of the week on Monday by the league office. Smith anchored an Alabama offensive line that paved the way for a season-high 324 rushing yards in a 49-14 SEC road win at Arkansas on Sept. 20. The Crimson Tide?s 324 rushing yards and 9.4 yards per carry are the most by an SEC team this season. Smith had a key block in three of the Tide?s rushing touchdowns, including an 87-yard run and 31-yard run by Glen Coffee. Smith also registered the top grade on the UA offensive line and did not allow a sack or pressure in the win at Arkansas.

Whole heartedly disagree here scott. UGA has the leading passer, rusher, and reciever in the sec as well as the top defense against the run. Now I will grant you the pass defense leaves a little to be desired, but even that looked much better against ASU. As far as not playing smash mouth I guess we will see come saturday. I would venture a guess that moreno gets quite a few more carries in the 60 degree night air as appossed to the 90+ in his others. JMO but I see an easy cover 35-14. Not trying to piss your parade, GL

My whole play is based on the Alabama defensive line stuffing the run. I do not think Moreno will be able to get his usual 100 yds. This changes the whole game plan for Georgia. And that is not a good thing.

UGA - If this game was in Alabama would you think the same 35-14 ?

If Georgia can win this and dominate I will feel very much better about them being Nat champs.

I just do not see it.

Not in this game.

Notes - 9/23/08 AJC

? Georgia?s offensive line remains a work in progress. A reconfigured line had different starters at all five positions than the previous two games and featured two first-time starters, freshman Ben Jones at center and redshirt freshman Justin Anderson at right tackle.

?Better, but I wouldn?t say spectacular by any means,? Richt said Sunday of the line?s play. ?We got a ways to go.?

He was noncommittal on whether the lineup will shuffle again this week. ?I think on a weekly basis these guys will continue to compete,? he said.

? Alabama will pose a different test for Georgia?s defense. Arizona State knew it wouldn?t be able to run against the Bulldogs ? and it couldn?t, gaining just four yards on 19 rushing attempts. So quarterback Rudy Carpenter threw the ball on 36 of the Sun Devils? 55 offensive plays.

That continued a trend against Georgia. South Carolina threw on 40 of 56 plays and Central Michigan on 44 of 66.

Now comes Alabama, which emphasizes the run.

The Crimson Tide leads the SEC in rushing offense (236.8 yards per game) and is next-to-last in passing offense (150.8 yards per game).

By contrast, Georgia is first in the league in rushing defense (45.8 yards per game) and next-to-last in pass defense (229.2 yards per game).

Something is going to crack. I think it will be the Bulldogs helmets.

We had plays that we wanted to put on the field Saturday that we didn't even have to use because the game plan was so good," said tailback Glen Coffee, now the SEC's third-leading rusher after a 162-yard effort at Arkansas.

Take the Razorbacks victory this past weekend as an example. Alabama rolled to 328 rushing yards ? an average of 9.4 yards per attempt ? leaving Wilson to attempt only 14 passes. He completed six for 74 yards, marking the second game this year that the most prolific passer in school history hasn't reached 100 yards.

"We've had a couple of games this year where we really haven't had to pass the ball as much as we had planned on it," Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban said. "Even though it isn't a concern, you'd like to see that the players' timing is game ready and you are efficient and effective in what you're doing. It's certainly something we need to emphasize and continue to work on because it is something that we will need to do week-in and week-out as we go through our season."

Saban has stressed he would like to see more balance in Alabama's offense. In other words, he'd like to be more like Georgia, which ranks first in the SEC in total offense ? fourth in rushing and second in passing.

The Bulldogs' 552 yards against Central Michigan would be the season-high for yardage among SEC teams had the Crimson Tide not ripped Western Kentucky for 557. :scared

"Hopefully, we can do a good job and play well around (Wilson) so he has a chance to be effective as a player," Saban said, "because I think that's going to be critical in this game, to have balance in our offense."

For now, Wilson isn't minding the drop in statistics.

His team is still undefeated with Georgia waiting for an evening that Wilson said could be "the deciding moment in our season." :SIB

"Every game we've played we came out and kind of dominated them up front," Wilson said. "By the end of the game, they didn't want to be out there. If we can keep dictating the pace of the game like that, it makes it tough."

One thing about John Parker is that you cannot rattle him. He has been in many big games and plays steady.

He does tend to sail the ball on his passes. When he does that he seems to not step into the pass and lift his front foot up or something.

The differance I see in this game is going to be Alabama's ability to open holes for their running backs who shuffle in and out without losing much intensity and athletic ability.

The reason Arizona St could not run on the Dogs was their offensive line stunk . Not to mention their best running back was injured.

There should be alot of running in this game. I am wondering if the under the total would be the way to go.

This change in the clock has really made the game differant in alot of ways. Reduced offensive plays for each team, puts the spotlight on your offense when you do have the ball.

Its almost like Arena Football

And I think they wanted for that to happen. Just takes some getting used to is all.

I have not figured out a way to exploit that yet.

Trench warfare will determine winner
By Chip Towers | Wednesday, September 24, 2008, 06:00 AM

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

A tale of the trenches. That?s what Saturday?s game between No. 3 Georgia and No. 8 Alabama is going to come down to.

It could be argued that every football game is decided along the offensive and defensive lines and to a great extent that?s true. But rarely is it as exaggerated as it will be this weekend at Sanford Stadium.

Start with the Crimson Tide?s defensive line. Anchoring their front is nose guard Terrence Cody. Georgia center/guard Chris Davis described him simply as ?a large human being. Huge.? The 6-foot-5 JUCO transfer apparently weighed 425 pounds when Bama recruited him out of Gulf Coast Community College. Now he?s listed at 365 pounds, though there is considerable debate about how much he actually weighs. Regardless, Cody is quite agile for that size and has been blowing up opposing offenses.

?He?s a beast,? Georgia coach Mark Richt said. ?No one man has blocked him and I haven?t really seem any double teams block him either. He?s a problem.?

Chiefly responsible for blocking Cody will be Georgia?s new starting center, Ben Jones. Jones (6-3, 304) is a true freshman. He?s also from Centreville, Ala.

?Ben?s a good ol? country boy and he loves a challenge,? said Davis, who?ll likely team up with Jones against Cody often. ?He?s not scared at all, you can see it in his eyes. He?s anxious. It?s his hometown team, Alabama, and I think he?s accepting this well.?

The problem with a guy like Cody is he?s pretty much guaranteed to take up two blockers. This shorts you a lineman to block the linebacker, and the Tide has a tough one in the middle in sophomore Rolando McClain (6-4, 249).

?He?ll pierce you,? Richt said. ?That?s the term our offensive coaches used. He pierces people.?

Meanwhile, Georgia?s defensive front gets by far its stiffest test versus an O-line. Bama features an all junior and senior line anchored by left tackle Andre Smith and center Antoine Caldwell. Both are likely NFL first-rounders, according to Richt, especially Smith, who has started every game he?s played for the Tide.

By the same token, Alabama has not faced a defensive front of the caliber of the Georgia?s, particularly in the interior. And that?s where the Tide does its business. Very seldom do they attempt to beat defenses around the corner or throw the ball downfield. They pound big running backs Glen Coffee (6-1, 198) and Mark Ingram (5-10, 215) between the tackles. That tact has resulted in an SEC best rushing average of 236.8 yards, or 5.9 per carry.

?It?s smash-mouth football,? Georgia defensive tackle Corvey Irvin said. ?We get to show what Georgia?s made of right here. They?re explosive, yeah, but we?re pretty good, too.?

Said linebacker Dannell Ellerbe: ?I?m looking forward to that type of game. I play middle linebacker. That?s the kind of game I like, between the tackles. Just man up.?
..........................................................
If we had known in August we would face Alabama without Sturdivant, Owens, Sutherland and Rod Battle we would have been plenty nervous. All of them started last year and all of them were really counted on.I?m not sure we should be favored. But it?s winnable.Corey Irvin says he saw Ben Jones pick up a grasshopper off the ground and swallow it. That may be our best hope againset the big Nose Guard. The element of surprise.
