YTD 1-0 + $500

I have spent the majority of my time on looking at this play since Saturday nights win over South Carolina.

Just to put it in a nutshell.

Georgia has played two very tough games against quality teams.

Arkansas has played :142smilie

When Georgia came back from the first quarter of the South Carolina game. South Carolina had the ball forever. They ran triple the plays of Georgia.
It ended up South Carolina had 30 more plays than the Bulldogs, but Georgia still won.

Got to believe that evens out this week.

Then Georgia started to get going and never looked back.

Joe Cox's touchdown to AJ Green in the corner of the end zone late in the game was a excellant pass. Thrown where it had to be.

Samuel listened to his press and the guy stepped it up running over people and getting some tough yards. Caleb King should be back this week and lets see how he can affect moving the chains.

In the last five years the Bulldogs have been in the top recruiting classes while Arkansas remains in the 20s. Better athletes over long periods equal wins in close matchups.:00hour

UGA's newest stars: Branden Smith, Brandon Boykin
By Tim Tucker
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Athens ?
Call it the ?Branden and Brandon Show.? It debuted at the University of Georgia last week, starting what should be a run of several years.

No one was catching Brandon Boykin (2) on this school-record 100-yard kickoff return against South Carolina.

Branden Smith and Brandon Boykin ? two speedy cornerbacks whose talents transcend their primary positions ? are one year apart in school, one number apart on their jerseys and one vowel apart in spelling their first names.

And they are even more closely connected in their potential as impact players for Georgia?s football team.

Smith, a freshman from Atlanta who wears No. 1, and Boykin, a sophomore from Fayetteville who wears No. 2, were quite the 1-2 punch for the Bulldogs in last week?s win over South Carolina.

Smith sprinted 61 yards untouched on a reverse for his first college touchdown and returned a kickoff 48 yards, while Boykin had four kickoff returns totaling 187 yards, including a scintillating 100-yarder for a touchdown.

Stars were born.

?Around campus, people [are] asking for autographs and everything,? Smith said Tuesday. ?It has been kind of weird.?

Inside the team, their talents were well known before last week.

Smith was a two-way player at Atlanta?s Washington High ? ?I never got off the field? ? and ran the fifth fastest 100-meter dash in Georgia prep history (10.4). He had offers from about 50 colleges before signing with the Bulldogs this year.

?That was one of the big celebrations we had in the recruiting war, the day he said he was coming,? coach Mark Richt said. ?I knew we were going to get him involved [right away], not only on defense but on some special teams and some offensive plays. I think his role will only grow as time goes on.?

?Once he gets experience and gets bigger and stronger and learns everything to do,? Boykin said of Smith, ?he?ll be a great, great player ? kind of like Champ Bailey playing both sides of the ball.?

Smith, currently a No. 2 cornerback, has played just three snaps on offense in each of the first two games because ?we don?t have that many plays for him right now,? quarterback Joe Cox said. But each time Smith takes the field on offense, fans ? and opponents ? take note.

?He can line up anywhere on the field,? Cox said. ?He can do a lot of things. He?s just a whole ?nother element somebody has to worry about.?

Boykin, meanwhile, had a strong spring practice to win the starting cornerback job vacated by Asher Allen?s early departure to the NFL and this summer, he claimed a share of kickoff return duties as well.

?I wish we had about three of him,? Richt said of Boykin. ?He can do so much. And he?s a Georgia boy who loves the Dogs and always did and you just love guys like that.

?One other thing I love about him,? Richt added. ?After [pregame warm-ups], he comes running toward me and he?ll do this vertical jump up to about my eyes. His feet come up that high. It?s amazing how high he can jump. We?ve got to find a way to use that, too.?

Boykin got his first collegiate interception on Saturday, as well as returning the four kickoffs and scoring on the longest touchdown play by a Bulldog in Sanford Stadium history ? the 100-yard return.

?I woke up [Sunday] morning and it was still surreal to me, the whole experience,? Boykin said. ?I was looking at it on ESPN360. ... I just kept rewinding it and rewinding it. I was, like, ?Did that really just happen?? ?

Smith also has been used on kickoff returns in the first two games. He returned two against South Carolina, fumbling the first unprovoked on the 5-yard line ? ?a freshman mistake,? he said ? before redeeming himself with the 48-yard return on the second.

You?ll be seeing much more of Branden and Brandon, although sometimes it?ll be a blur.

As for which is faster, Boykin concedes to Smith ? sort of.

?Straight away, he?s got it,? Boykin said. ?Put some moves in and I think I can do my thing.?

? As I noted yesterday, Georgia ranks 108th among major-college teams in penalties with 83 yards per game through two games. That?s after being assessed 13 penalties for 108 yards vs. South Carolina. Mark Richt addressed the issue, saying he doesn?t like it ?but it doesn?t make me crazy.?

?We?ll keep disciplining it,? he said of penalties. But he added: ?The way we played with energy, fire and enthusiasm the whole game ?- if the byproduct of that is penalties, I?ll take that over a team that doesn?t have a penalty but doesn?t have a pulse to go with it. ?

Richt said certain penalties, like being offsides or having too many players on the field, are inexcusable. Others, he indicated, can be subjective or the result of playing with passion.

? Justin Houston is happy to be back from a two-game suspension, but he is pained by the loss of fellow defensive end Rod Battle to a season-ending and maybe career-ending ACL tear. ?That hurt me to my heart when I saw him go down,? Houston said.:SIB

On a lighter note, Houston figures one of the happiest people to see him back in action will be Jeff Owens, the defensive tackle who got considerable action at D-end after Battle was injured in the second quarter of last week?s game. Owens wound up playing 33 snaps at D-end, Houston said, ?so I think he appreciates me coming back.?:SIB

? A few other things, quickly: Richt said the blocking on the kickoff return team showed ?astounding? improvement from Game 1 to Game 2. . . . Backup safety Quintin Banks has been cleared to play after a preseason knee injury, but didn?t get into last week?s game because of missed practice reps. ?I wouldn?t say he?s 100 percent back to the best Quintin Banks can be,? Richt said. . . . Injuries at linebacker have resulted in Marcus Washington shifting back to that position from defensive end, where he worked most of preseason. . . .

Penalties took their toll on the Dogs.

But if you look at the lowest ranked team in terms of penalties you are going to see many of the top ranked teams in terms of success every single year.

Last year, you could see, Fl, OK, OSU, TX, USC right there in the 90s, and 100s in yards.

It?s not the number of penalties, its the timing of when they occur. Regardless , I would like to see it drop in this game.

Houston is a stud and should really help the Dogs defenive line and the rushing of Arkansas QB's.

The Bulldogs might need a similar effort against the Razorbacks, who set a team mark with 447 passing yards in a 48-10 victory over Missouri State on Sept. 5.

Ryan Mallett, who sat out last season after transferring from Michigan, completed 17 of 22 passes for 309 yards and a touchdown, and backup Tyler Wilson threw for 138 yards and two TDs. The Razorbacks' 591 yards marked their highest total since they had 651 in a win over South Carolina on Nov. 3, 2007.

Though the effort came against an opponent Arkansas expected to stomp, it was a promising start to Petrino's second year. Coming off a 5-7 finish, the Razorbacks expect to make significant strides in 2009.

"We are a more mature team than we were a year ago and it showed in the game," said Petrino, whose team was idle last weekend.

The competition will get much stiffer in conference play, but Mallett doesn't expect much to change in his first SEC game.

"I approach every game the same way," he said. "You don't want to change your approach based on the opponent. If you do, that's how you get out of sync. Since my freshman year, I've grown up a lot. I don't get as wired-up as I used to as easily. I'm just going to approach it the same way I did against Missouri State.":00hour

Georgia won its last five games against Arkansas to take an 8-3 advantage in the series. Then ranked No. 4, the Bulldogs narrowly avoided an upset in the teams' last meeting Oct. 22, 2005, outlasting Arkansas 23-20 at home.

The Bulldogs are 3-0 in Fayetteville, where the Razorbacks have lost eight of their last 10 against ranked SEC opponents.:scared :scared

The thing about Mallet is that he is like Leftwich.
Not very moblie at all. I am thinking this is the week that the Bulldogs pull their pass rush together and get in the backfiield to do some hog stomping.

Arkansas is a deep offense team. There is no doubt about that .

Last year Arkansas could not score in the red zone. They were also playing 16 freshman.

Arkansas with Ryan Mallett has speedy recievers in Jarius Wrightm Joe Adams..Greg Childs

A top tight end in dj Williams..

The hogs have a all SEC 1st team rb Michael Smith, and Ronnie Wingo,Brod Green, Kniles Davis,Danthony Curtis, Dennis Johnson...

The huge problem for Arlkansas is their defense. :scared

If Georgia holds the ball away from their offense they are hog stomped. Joe Cox running ball control offense may be too much to overcome in the course of the game.

Bulldogs kicker Walsh ?real focused right now?
By Tim Tucker

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

ATHENS ? Georgia placekicker Blair Walsh,
has made his first three field goals this season.

All three have come from 40-plus yards, with two from 50-plus, including a career-long 53.:00hour

Walsh, a sophomore from Boca Raton, Fla., staved off a challenge from junior-college transfer Brandon Bogotay this summer to hold on to the placekicking and kickoff jobs.

Walsh talked with the AJC this week:

Q: Do you believe in the concept of athletes being ?in the zone?? Are you there right now on field goals?

A: I hope. I think I am, yeah. I?m real focused right now. ... I just go out there like I?m 0-for-0 and have never had any attempt before. I just got to keep knocking them down.

Q: What?s the biggest thing you learned last season?

A: Probably to not let each kick get in my head and to really understand what I?m doing and learn from each kick. Don?t draw negative things from [a missed kick]. Don?t say, ?Now, my percentage is so-and-so.? Just draw what you know from it, and fix it.

Q: What did you do during the off-season to improve?

A: A lot of muscle-memory drills. I went out to the Chris Sailer [Kicking] Camp, the college camp, in May. He?s been real helpful to me. I also got back in touch with my old coach who moved away. Just sort of got back to the basics again.

Q: Tell me about the day you kicked a ball onto the roof of a building next to the practice field.

A: We were hitting kickoffs, and I got a hold of one from the 30 to that roof. It was really the best kick I?ve ever hit in my life. It probably went about 85 yards in the air.:scared

Q: There?s so much talk about Georgia?s kickoff philosophy [boom-it-into-the-end-zone vs. directional kicks]. Do you have a preference?

A: I do what I?m told.

Q: Is your confidence on field goals back to where it was early last season [when you made 10 of 12 before slumping]?

A: I?d say so, yeah, but last year I might have let it get too high. I know how to control it now. I know ... it?s a long season.
................................................................

I feel good having Walsh kicking the field goals.

Guy is a Boomer and can kiick the ball into the end zone consistantly .,
