Sorry he seems like a good guy but he has lost too many big games IMO

I don't think they will find a better person but there are better play callers and people to get the team ready

Name that is circulating based on his success and some speculators is the HC from Ga Southern, Willie Fritz and he'll cost a lot less than Richt, plus they don't have to pay anything for Richt since he turned down an offer earlier in the year?

seriously doubt a coach will come out of Ga Southern

no way fans would tolerate that

this had to be a very high profile pick

I believe it was foolish to part with Richt given he is finally getting the things(promised 15 years ago) that the other power schools in this conference have had for years. That aside, Kirby Smart will be the next coach.

Tom Herman from the Houston Cougars might be a dark-horse.

Richt led the program to its longest sustained run of success in its history, and did it with nothing but absolute class. The fact remains, however, that Richt hadn't won an SEC title since 2005 and hadn't even won a division title in the mediocre SEC East since 2012. I'd argue he dealt with unavoidable factors like injuries that hampered recent teams, but this season was a mess on the field and off.

Georgia has the potential to win bigger than Richt has since falling just short of an SEC title in 2012.

coulda woulda shoulda

Good stuff ya'll, and great pts KOD & UGA.

What are the chances of Dabo Swiney going to Ga from Clemson? Goff coming back?

You just don't let someone go after 15 yrs, even with the unsuccessful head 2 head vs Bama. Bama has ruled many teams and always seems to be the coach killer when it comes to letting coaches go.

Les Miles' job got saved in the 3rd Quarter last night? Something that probably just cost Alleva his job as AD. He screwed up DUKE as well!

My guess would be Georgia will wait until after the SEC championship to make a hire or after Christmas. But there are a lot of verbal commits now second guessing what is going on and will need to be reassured and re-recruited to stick with the Georgia program for 2016 verbal commit even though official signings are a bit off still.

Very interesting.

Let the coaching revolving door continue. Rutgers fires AD & Football coach. Maybe Greg Schiano will come back to Rutgers!!

Thanks ya'll!

ATHENS ? Jeremy Pruitt was recruiting to the bitter the end.

Georgia?s controversial defensive coordinator was in Elbert County with the mother of five-star recruit Mecole Hardman when the news broke that Bulldogs? head coach Mark Richt had been fired.

?I?m here in Elbert County. I was in church with Mecole?s (mom),? Pruitt said around 1 p.m. Sunday. ?I?m just recruiting. Not sure what to tell you.?

Pruitt said he had bad cell service and the connection broken just when he was asked if the news caught him by surprise or he knew it was coming. He was unable to be reached afterward.

Georgia?s assistant coaches have been asked by UGA to remain with the program and continue coaching and recruiting through the bowl game. The Bulldogs are off for the next two weeks before resuming bowl practices.

Defensive line coach Tracy Rocker, said he planned on staying with the team through the bowl.

?I?m gonna do my job,? Rocker said. ?It?s called finish the drill.?

Pruitt is a central figure in the changes that are being made. His inability to get along with other members of the coaching staff had caused strained and dissension within the coaching staff. According to one source, several of Richt?s assistants threatened to leave if Pruitt was allowed to return.

However, Pruitt?s defense was the only thing that worked well for the Bulldogs the second half of this season. Georgia finished third in the SEC and eighth nationally in total defense, giving up just 298 yards per game. The Bulldogs had Georgia Tech shut out on Saturday until a late touchdown helped by a bogus personal foul call helped the Yellow Jackets score with three minutes left in the game.

This is only Pruitt?s second season in Athens as Georgia?s defensive coordinator. A former Alabama player and assistant, he succeeded Todd Grantham on January of 2014 after Grantham left the Bulldogs for Louisiville. Pruitt had coordinated Florida State?s defense when the Seminoles won the national championship in 2013.

...................................................

Guess some Richts assistants will be gone now.

clean house Kirby...............

start fresh and kick some ass

Anyone that really knows the situation at UGA understands that the University itself is just beginning to take the steps needed to be the top tier program that everyone thinks they should be. When Mark Richt took the job he was promised a lot of things and 15 years later they are still behind other programs in many aspects. Hell they are 7th in the conference in spending on football, even South Carolina and Arkansas spend more than they do, and this is what people think is commitment to excellence? Any idea how Georgia's indoor facility stacks up to the others in the conference? It doesn't because they are the only school in the conference without one! The University has the toughest drug policies in the nation which further handicaps a coach forced to sit players while competing against players across the field that face no punishment for the same actions. Assistant coaching pay and support staff positions and pay have been desperately lacking and only in the past year has this started to truly get the attention it needed. On top of all of this the guy that is being FORCED(by the president) into actually opening the purse a little Athletic Director Adam McGarity is still sitting in his office and being allowed to make decisions which is just totally fuking baffling at this point!

All I have said is he should have been given a couple of years when he was actually getting the support, facilities, and support staff that the other top programs have had for years. Given he was told 15 years ago that these things would be in place within a few years of him being hired I think it kinda sucks to kick a guy to the curb that has done so much for your program when these things are actually now coming to fruition. The ironic part is that Kirby will now walk into a situation that will provide him within the next year most everything Richt was promised 15 years ago. He will be successful, and the "See Mark Richt was holding us back" crowd will be loud and proud.

couple more years of losing the big games. :mj07:

no one knows what Richt was told 15 yrs ago and if they did it does not mean anything at this point.

what a crybaby way of looking at this.

who cares if the next coach walks into things. At least they give Georgia a better chance to win than Richt ever did. Why dont you mention Richt putting in Faton for the Florida game as his downfall. what a ass move that was.

Kirby may not leave anyway. Time can only tell if they make the right choice. Just glad they finally made getting Richt out of there a start.

You simply haven't a fucking clue what you are talking about. Very few if any coaches that have won a National championship the last decade would have been able to do so at Georgia because none of them could/would have worked there under the requirements/demands/limitations of the administration. The fact you do not understand any of this and default to "he started the wrong quarterback against Florida" just reaffirms that you don't have a fucking clue what is and has been going on for some time. I will grant you that it might not be Kirby, but that will only be because he is not willing to compromise to the contractual obligations that would be placed upon him. Anyone that thinks UGA is suddenly just going to open the check book, find an elite Coach, give them full control and turn them loose, doesn't understand how the university does things and why they have not been the dominate force that many think they could be.

Richt fate was sealed when he started Faton in that Florida game.

anyone that thinks different does not have a clue about whats going on.

why do you act high and mighty like some insider with this.

you dont know anymore than the rest of us.

Richt firing was 5 years late.

yeh but if they could have had better facilitys they could have won.... waaaaaa

Richt has always reminded me of a young Tom Osborne. We all know how long it took Nebraska to win one under Tom. The only thing I never liked about Richt was his offense from a QB perspective. That offense is hard to pick up and perfect. I think Richt would have been better served running some kind of spread offense where the QBs can come in a play at a high level fairly quickly. He gets elite talent at QB and WR and it always made me wonder what they could have done.
