Woke up Mon morning and my dog (Bubba the Six Packin Redneck) was not himself. All he would do was just stand and not move. Me and the wife went to the dog track that day and when we got home he was worse. He would just stand there and he wouldnt put his head to the ground.even if I put a piece of burger in front of him. Took him to a vet on Tues and she wanted to run $650 worth of tests on him. She said it probably was cancer and to tell you the truth I damned near died. He is 9 yrs old and I have raised him since a pup. He had a big knot on the side of his neck that came up within a day. This vet was a total bitch....but I will get into that at another time. I went home and my wife told me it was up to me what I wanted to do because Bubba was mine(I had raised since a pup and she only came into my life 4 yrs ago).I decided that day to not pay the money and just keep him as comfortable as could be and I would put him down if he got into worse pain. I woke up the next morning (after checking on him about 10 times) and decided I wanted a second opinion. My wife took him to a diferent vet on Tues and he did a biopsty on the lump and gave him something for the pain and he also gave him an atibiotic for imflimation. Something the 1st vet refused to do. Total cost was $290. Today he woke up and he is damn near back to normal. The 2nd vet called back today and said they got the results back and the believe it was just inflamation and to bring him back in on Sat for a checkup. Yes the lump has gone down since yesterday. Dont get me wrong...I am extremely happy that it turns out to be minor but on the other hand if I had went with the first vets word I would have ended up putting him down. That in itself scares the hell out of me. I am so glad that I got a second opinion.

So...a word of warning.. always get a second opinion.

Great! We've been very fortunate with our vets. They are very reasonably priced. My wife's cat was mauled in May. He had to have 2 surgeries (anesthesia 2 times), 2 different antibiotics, and a 2 night stay, and we were only out 200 bucks.

I'm like pel7. That first vet would be getting an ass chewing. Normally, I believe most vets are compassionate and care about the animals they tend to. Apparently not this one.

Don't want to get off on a rant....

Don't want to get off on a rant....

I'm not really big on vets myself. I have had various bad experiences with different vets over the years. I have come across too many that are out for the money. Some I have met seem almost dulled by all the previous experiences they have had with people and pets, no compassion (the same seems to happen to some in the medical community as well).

Great to hear you got the second opinion and things worked out. :)

Your story remembered to me a personal one, well, was a story of my dad, some years ago, like 7 my parents were very very strange, I supposed they had issues and thats it, but no, the strange behavior lasted 2 months, in that time everything looks like a separation, a lot of legal issues were involved. Mom or dad didnt say a thing, even if I asked they dont, so one day my dad come home and invite us to dinner out in some fancy place and he looks very very happy that day, me and lil bro and sis were a little bit shocked because all the environment change since that moment! The next day he just sit with us to talk about the issue, He was feeling some pains and he went to the doctor (my dad is a Doctor), so the especialist tell him he had a cancer in the bony system, he tell us that he just go to his work and didnt say anything about it to anybody, he was so shocked with the 2-3 weeks of life the doctor gives him!!! the next day he told mom what happened, and then the pressure and sadness invaded their lifes!! then mom tell him why dont a second opinion?? my dad is very hard head with this kind of chit, but he accepts, he went and the second opinion said the same, freaking cancer!!! then my dad goes to all the assurances to protect us his family and did all the legal things to leave us with dignity and taking care of our future. In his "last week of life", he was talking with a colleague and tell him his situation, the colleague was shocked but he ask him for a 3rd opinion, my dad was so heartbroken and disappointed to go to another place to have the same result, he told us he goes home and dinner with us and decide to go to a 3rd opinion after he share some time with us!! and he went to the 3rd opinion doctor, you know how much he loves that doctor??? I will tell you one thing he didnt go with a doctor, first went to do all the studies before his appointment with the doctor and the technician who does the studies tell him that wasnt a cancer, of course my dad didnt beleive him, 2 doctors against a technician, but 2 doctors against a doctor and a techinician of studies can be an even, so he goes to the appointment and yes he doesnt have a cancer!!!!!! thank god!! He has a degenerative disease of the bony system, but with plenty of time left to live and get old, of course is not a good disease, but at least he can have a lot of quality time left, so the second opinion and the 3rd and 4th are always good!! Of course that didnt do my parents closer they divorced a year a go or so, but thats another story :p

I hope my write up is understandeable! :D!!!
