SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS -115 - Mike Hampton appears to have had a transformation at Atlanta after struggling badly in the altitude of Colorado the last few years. Hampton now sports a nifty 2.52 ERA and 1.16 ratio in 4 starts, covering 25 innings. However, before casting those Cy Young votes, there is one very big red flag regarding Hampton that leads me to believe that his current success will not continue. He has now issued an alarming 14 walks in those 25 innings, against just 5 strikeouts! If Hampton continues to put men on base while allowing other batters to make contact, he is sure to fall off the tight-rope he has been walking to this point. Jason Schmidt is having another fine season so far, going a perfect 3-0 with an outstanding 1.94 ERA and an equally stellar 1.06 ratio. Most impressively, the Giants as a team are 6-0 in all of Schmidt?s starts. He has recorded 5 Quality Starts out of 6 total starts, and he only allowed a reasonable 4 runs in the other outing. He also has 48 strikeouts and 14 walks in 41.2 innings, basically the reciprocal of Hampton?s K/BB Ratio.
